Schoolwide Testing week of April 10, 2023

Dear South Families,

I have some important information to share with you about the week of April 10, 2023. Every year in April, schools are required to administer the Michigan Merit Exam to juniors, school wide PSAT8/9 tests to all freshmen and PSAT10 tests to all sophomores. The MME, taken by the juniors, is a battery of tests which consists of the MSTEP, SAT, and WorkKeys. Students who are not assessed will count against our school's required 95 percent participation rate, which will create an incomplete picture of our school's performance. The state does not provide for an opt out of these tests, so students who are present on the day of testing will be required to be in their assigned testing location.

The testing schedule is as follows:

Monday, April 10: Regular bell schedule - no testing

Tuesday, April 11: Regular bell schedule - MSTEP - All juniors

Wednesday, April 12: No classes for seniors

PSAT 8/9 for freshmen

PSAT10 for sophomores

SAT for juniors

  • Testing starts at 8:00 am - students should be in their assigned rooms by 7:55 am.

  • Students will be dismissed after testing - lunch will not be served. Students should bring snacks to eat and water to drink during breaks.

Thursday, October 13: Regular bell schedule - WorkKeys - All juniors

Friday, October 14: Regular bell schedule

Generally, each test is scheduled to be completed in one day. Students with accommodations may require more time. Parents of students with an IEP or 504 plan with extended time will receive a separate communication about the timing of tests since the timing of their tests will be different. This communication will be sent soon.

When we return from break, students will receive notification of their assigned testing location. Testing locations/times will be posted via Schoology and in the hallway by the assistant principal’s office.

There is no make-up session for the PSAT8/9 or PSAT10. There will be a make-up session for the MSTEP, SAT, and WorkKeys. Juniors who are absent on the day of any of the above tests will be automatically scheduled for the make-up session.

Students should bring:

Students should plan to leave their backpack and all electronic devices in their lockers. College Board has strict guidelines around electronic use and access during testing. Students accessing an electronic device at any point once the test has begun will be dismissed from testing and their scores will be canceled.
