News from the Library
January 2016
Welcome to 2016
I hope everyone had a great break. With the new year, here are some new books and ideas.
A sample print from our new 3D printer
It will be interesting to see what the kids can come up with!
A winning creation
Students had a bag of 20 legos and a lunch period to design something.
Zombie Creation
Students could use 5 materials to create a zombie
Makerspace Update
We have had 2 makerspace challenges so far (a third was planned for the snow day) and the response from the kids has been great! The Makerspace got 2 Christmas presents--a 3D printer and a set of little bits circuit makers. Our next makerspace day will by Jan. 27 during all lunches. Come see what the kids are up to!
If you would like to use makerspace materials for a class, let me know. I'd love to help out.
Award Season
The ALA book awards were announced Jan. 11. See the full list here.
Brown Girl Dreaming, winner of the Coretta Scott King Award, is already on our Battle of the Books list. Read it if you have a chance!
The Colorado Blue Spruce will be announced Feb. 6 here.
The library will be adding many of these titles soon.

Take a Book, Leave a Book Shelf
Don't forget our Book Exchange Shelf in the library. Leave books you've already read and pick up something new. Come try The Tourist (a CIA thriller) or Rhett Butler's People. You know you made a resolution to read more and the price is right.
Information Literacy
I've been having a great time working with 6th grade Social Studies classes on the ancient civilizations project. Ask the kids about text features, databases, EasyBib and citations. Let me know if you have projects coming up that the library can help with by providing resources, mini-lessons, or another adult during research or writing days.
Tech Tip: Using Google forms & video
Who doesn't like to use video clips? How can you be sure your kids are getting the most out of them? See this article for a great idea.
Club Spotlight
There is a medium sized display case near the library that we used last year for Club Announcements. I thought we could try a club spotlight for that case this year. If you would like your club "in the spotlight," fill out this Google form. Please send down pictures and other information too and my TA's will put it all together.
