TRUE NORTH: SCN FOOTBALL VALUE SYSTEM

Moving into the 2023 season, I wanted to freshen up our Northstar Mentality. Ten years ago, our 2013 class developed the Iron Star Code. Each point on the 5-pointed star is recognized to represent one belief that our program will be built on. Each point on the star is equal to the one before it. The values of Leadership, Investment, Selflessness, Accountability, and Preparation make up our North Star. In the center of the completed stars lies the T.E.A.M. For the past ten seasons and every moment in between, we have remained consistent in our steadfast belief in these five values. They are our "True North". These beliefs will be our compass in all we do as a program on and off the field. Much like the Northstar in maritime days, we will use our "True North" as the compass we will follow in the journey to the elite.

For this reason, we will be renaming our Iron Star Code as the St. Charles North "True North" mentality. I am proud of these words and what they mean. I have seen them transform lives, including my own. I hope you can share in our "True North" words and discuss these values with your son or daughter as much as possible. These behaviors win, and belief must exist in our journey to the elite. As we say, championship behaviors preceded championships. We must commit ourselves to these habits until they become our rituals.

I am passionate about these ideologies. I have spent the past ten years working relentlessly to develop this program and the people who are a part of it. While teaching is my job, coaching is my calling. I want to make this program the best high school athletics program in Illinois. I do not say this to toot my own horn; I am sharing this with you to provide insight into what I envision this program can be. The bottom line is that this program is significant to me, as are all of you. I cannot wait to take on the journey of this coming season.

Message from Coach Pomazak

If I didn't have a calendar, I would not believe that tomorrow is May! The weather is holding on to the winter-like grime death. I spent the day at the I9 fields and braved the sleet, rain, and wind to support our Junior Stars feeder program on the gridiron. It is always so much fun to watch the future of our program build their skills and bonds. It is my job to have a bigger picture for the program. I constantly look into the crystal ball and try to build for the future. Investing in our youth is essential to the program's longevity. Today's 5th and 6th graders are tomorrow's varsity, all-staters, and hopefully state champions. I know this because I have the privilege of watching our kids go from grade school to middle and finally high school.

Yesterday, I was fortunate enough to enjoy the prom. I always find this evening to be a special moment. Everyone is dressed up, and our kids act so mature. It is as if they move one step closer to adulthood right before our eyes. At the event, I was humbled to have each player come up and shake my hand. We even took a picture together. It is in these moments that I think back to these men when they were in 5th and 6th grade. It seems like yesterday, and honestly brings a tear to my eye. I know it sounds cliche, but I genuinely love these kids. For the past ten years, I have put everything I have into making this program something our community can be proud of. For better or worse, it has shaped all of my family's time living in this area. I say all of this because, as we move into this next chapter of SCN Football, I need your help. I alone cannot build this program into all it can be. I need you to help carry the MVP. Please take the time to read through the entire newsletter, and in areas that you believe you can help, please reach out and do so. This is our year, I believe it!

NEXT ACADEMIC SUPPORT FINAL CALL

Players appearing on the D/F report will be contacted Monday and asked to attend the academic support period in the cafeteria during the early dismissal Wednesday. During this time, players will meet with our academic support team to review missing assignments and develop a plan to raise their grades. Players will also have 1 hour of uninterrupted work time. Emails will be sent out to parents and players prior. Additionally, all players can walk in and have a silent study during this time.

Coach Pomazak is currently scheduling one on one meetings with any players in need of support. Meetings can happen during the day. Please email Coach to schedule an appointment.

SCN FOOTBALL NEEDS YOUR HELP

The Stars Football program has been invited to the University of Illinois for their annual cream of the crop 7 on 7 . It is a great honor to be invited to this elite event. However, with this invite comes a 2-hour bus ride to Champaign. Anyone who has ridden in a yellow bus understands that they are built for transport, not comfort. To keep our athletes comfortable and best support their physical needs, we are looking for a volunteer or multiple volunteers willing to sponsor a coach bus rental for our kids for that day. If you are interested in learning more, please email robert.pomazak@d303.org.

Thank you

DONATIONS UPDATE

We have raised 250 dollars towards our Coach Bus rental for the U of I event. The estimated rental cost is about 1500 dollars. If we do not get that number, we will take a yellow bus. If you can help pledge money to the cause, don't hesitate to get in touch with Coach Pomazak at robert.pomazak@d303.org

APRIL SPORTS PERFORMANCE FOCUS

This past week we hit our "singles" week. A no we are not talking about dating. Our Stars hit new personal records and showed why we are pound for pound the strongest team in the state. This week we transition into our power phase when the Rate of Force and bar speed are paramount. The goal is to move heavy things fast and with power. I love this phase as it transitions the maximum strength we have built and puts it into a more football application. Be on the look out for final gains across all metrics! The growth is astounding.

ELITE LEADERS

We try to stay connected all year in the St. Charles North Football program. When our winter sports athletes compete for the Stars, those not in season work in the weight room and gyms. It is an excellent opportunity to build relationships away from the football field. Each week culminates with an Elite Leader being named. The best part of the award is that the player from the week prior is the one who names the recipient. It is an extraordinary moment when our players highlight each other. I am excited to see who gets the opportunity to be called an "Elite Leader" this off-season.

ELITE LEADER COMING MONDAY

With no lifting last friday we did not name an elite leader! Enjoy Caleb's face for another day or two.

STARS 7'S Continuing to build

Thanks to Lance Reinke, who has headed up or Stars 7's program we will have 2 teams for the Barrington All-American League. By IHSA rules, Stars staff cannot be associated with the team during the competition. League play begins this Sunday. Best of luck to our teams.

UPDATE: Our Dad Coaches and players continue to put in great work and preparation. The goal of the league is to develop players at all levels. The wins are not the goal, period. Players' use depends on needs for the week and overall development playing time. The goal will always be to focus on the player and their developmental needs. I have been extremely pleased with all aspects of this league. Continued success to our Stars 7's

MEETING RECAP

Thank you to the parents who came to our parent group meeting. Many great topics were discussed, the biggest being parent support for the various sub-committees we run within our SCN 4th Phase. Attached you will find the notes from the meeting. We seek leaders to step in and help elevate the program in all areas. We need help, and I feel our parents are the best, so I am excited to see who steps into these crucial roles.

College Visitation Rules

The NCAA D1 FBS contact period has started. That means colleges can schedule times to visit with the 2024 recruits. In the coming weeks, we will have an excellent opportunity to get our players in front of some of the best and brightest colleges in the country. Our protocol for college visits is as follows.

1. Coach Pomazak emails administration scheduled visits for the coming day, including which students have been asked to attend by visiting college coach.

2. Students will receive a pass before the scheduled visit.

3. Students will only have 15 minutes to visit. This will help limit the loss of instructional time.

4. If students have any assessments during the visit, they are not permitted to come.

5. Teachers have the right to ask students not to leave class.

6. Students should refrain from missing the same class twice a row.
