High School Boards Volunteer and Community Participation Memo
Dear Ms. Yvonne Howard,
William Osler Health System Foundation respectfully invites your staff and students to join us as a participant or volunteer for the 2nd annual Osler’s Walk ‘n Roll for Healthy Kids presented by Whole Health Pharmacy. Please join us, our physicians, patients, corporate partners as well as caring members of the community on Sunday June 12, 2016 for a leisurely 5 km walk, right here in our community at the Woodbine Racetrack.
A great recognition opportunity is created for organizations in our community, as over 500 participants join together to support children’s care services at Etobicoke General Hospital. Being at a critical point in history, set to begin the first significant expansion and renovation since opening its doors more than 40 years ago When the doors open in 2019, it will feature best-in-class diagnostics and technology, larger rooms, more privacy, open spaces and plenty of natural light to help us better serve the community’s most urgent health care needs. With your support, programs like the new Maternal Newborn Unit will ensure that our youngest patients have the care when and where it is needed most.
This year, the impact of your participation will be doubled! With the help of Orlando Corporation’s $15M Matching Challenge, each dollar raised will be matched in support of Etobicoke General Hospital.
Please see the attached documents and further details on how you can all get involved. Once you have had a chance to look it over, please give me a call or email me and we can further discuss any opportunities available based on the specific needs of your schools.
On behalf of William Osler Health System Foundation, thank you for your consideration of support. We truly look forward to working with you as together, we go beyond for a healthier community.
Kind regards,
Maggie Barbosa

Skills Works for Women
Reflection on Cosmo trip from April 26th 2016
What I learnt and loved and took from this trip:
I learnt that trades for women is a possibility. Before this trip my brain was mainly wired
to think jobs such as welding, mechanic, car repair and so on were jobs for men. I always knew it was a possibility, but the thought of the trades did not seem practical enough to even consider. I loved the fact that everyone was so supportive, even in the races, the man doing the race was such a good sport and gave both the team that lost and that won tickets. I took that these careers are great careers, pays well and a great opportunity for females to shine in something not so feminine. The fact that they had planned out four different stations to do so that we weren't but sitting all day was the best. Two of the stations were talking to girls who actually had these careers, and the third was a race between the two teams and the last one was a tour of their work space for the students. Each station was either just fun, or a great opportunity to hear about females and their love for the career that they hold or the struggle they faced as a young adult. All and all it was of course a great experience that I was privilege to attend.
