Info for the 2022-23 school year
We’re already looking forward to next school year! Recognizing that knowing school schedules in advance is critical for families to plan their work, childcare and other activities, here are important items to note regarding schedules for next school year, as well as a look ahead at key dates for both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years.
First day of school
Sept. 6: First day of school for grades 1-12
Sept. 9: First day of Kindergarten
Bell schedule
Bell schedules vary by school. Elementary schools will continue to be defined by “early start” and “late start.” Here’s the 2022-23 bell schedule for each school.
Late-start Mondays
We will continue with a weekly late-start day on Mondays for the 2022-23 school year. Referred to as “Late Start Monday,” these are days when students will catch the bus and begin school about 90 minutes later than other days. This late start schedule one day a week allows teachers to participate in professional learning groups to collaboratively plan, learn and share instructional practices, which increases school performance and student achievement.
Key dates
Negotiated between the Sumner-Bonney Lake Education Association and the District, our school calendars are planned far in advance. Here are links to key dates that outline holidays, school board meetings and other events.
School meals for 2022-23 school year
For the past two years, a USDA waiver allowed school districts to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students. As the waiver expires at the end of this school year, we are transitioning back to regular prices for school meals, with free- and reduced-price options for qualified families.
All families who may be eligible are encouraged to apply for free or reduced-price meals. Due to state funding, there are no longer co-pays for reduced-price meals, so they will be free. Applications may be submitted online through Skyward Family Access beginning Aug. 1. Learn more about free- and reduced-price meals.
Elementary school supplies
In order to provide some relief from back-to-school shopping, most elementary schools* are asking families to contribute a $25 donation per child to cover the cost of school supplies. Families will be able to pay the donation in August by logging into Skyward Family Access.
All students should be prepared for school with a backpack, refillable water bottle and lunchbox.
*Liberty Ridge Elementary: School supplies for students attending Liberty Ridge have already been purchased by the school’s PTO. Students will receive their supplies on the first day of school.
