Diamond Notes

"Put me in coach, I'm ready to play today"

Released in 1985, John Fogerty's "Centerfield" has become a staple at baseball & softball games around the country. This spring it will undoubtedly be played on repeat for the Brickies! After losing out on the 2020 season thanks to COVID, our kids are "ready to play" and geared up for a STELLAR SPRING!!

With pre-season scrimmages out of the way ... the boys were @ Lake Central on Thursday and the girls hosted South Bend St. Joseph on Saturday, it all GETS REAL this upcoming week!! Opening day for baseball is Monday as our boys look to get back into the swing of things hosting Merrillville ... and the Lady Brickies open up Tuesday at home against 2019 defending sectional champion Chesterton!

Ok Brickies ... knock the cover off the ball :)

Check out this NWI Times article about the Lady Brickies!

Track & Field

The Brickies are scheduled to officially open the season @ Portage on Thursday, April 8th, but for some ... the season has unofficially been here all along! The Johnston brothers ... Riley & Cody ... have traveled the midwest this winter taking advantage of some pretty incredible indoor facilities to continue perfecting their craft in pursuit of some hardware this spring! As a sophomore in 2019, Riley placed 3rd overall at the IHSAA STATE FINALS in the pole vault and has already cleared 16' this winter!! Cody ... the Indiana Middle School STATE CHAMPION 2 years ago ... is chasing his big brother and recently placed 2nd overall at the NSAF (National Scholastic Athletics Foundation) Meet of Champions held in South Carolina!

Brickyard Stadium should be an exciting place this spring as our Boys & Girls track teams ... along with our Unified team ... look to LAP the competition!

Hobart High School head athletic trainer Mark Leto spent the last few days in Indianapolis working a really SWEET gig! With the NCAA's annual MARCH MADNESS Men's Basketball tournament championship taking place entirely in Indiana this year, participating teams needed help coordinating athletic training needs around heavy COVID protocols. Mr. Leto was asked to serve the NCAA and these participating teams at Banker's Life Fieldhouse for the duration of the 2nd weekend of the tournament, which included the SWEET 16 and ELITE 8 contests!!

Front row seating at MARCH MADNESS is a pretty SWEET way to spend the last weekend of spring break!

CONGRATULATIONS to both the boys & girls bowling teams for the FANTASTIC performance in Fort Wayne on Saturday at the IHSB (Indiana High School Bowling) STATE FINALS!! Each team qualified for STATE by placing in the top 3 at last week's Semi-State competition at Stardust Bowl II in Merrillville. On Saturday, the Brickies were in action at Pro Bowl West in Fort Wayne against the best ... I SAY THE BEST ... in all of Indiana!

Hobart's boys placed 4th and the Lady Brickies were 6th overall!! AMAZING!!

CONGRATULATIONS to the coaches and student athletes for representing H-town so incredibly well! WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU!!!
