Cedar Grove Friday Flash
October 28, 2022
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
We had a great start to the school year with our composting program. During the month of September, the students were able to divert 375 pounds of food from landfills and incinerators. Congratulations to our students for their efforts!
Our Pink Out Wednesdays have come to an end. Thank you to the students and staff who participated and wore pink during the month of October. If you would like to see a Pink Out video, it will be available for viewing sometime next week in the Media Monthly section below. In addition, you can also find a video of the pumpkin event that is in the Media Monthly now.
Our Fall Food Drive is back as we continue our tradition of collecting foods for DAMASCUS HELP! Please consider donating food and baby items all next week, October 31st -November 4th. This can be a great family activity to teach about kindness in our community and doing our best to help those in need. Please click on this link, "Give What You Can", to see the list of possible donation items. Items may be dropped off and placed in boxes in the main entrance hallway. Thank you for your consideration in donating.
During the month of November and into the first few weeks in December, students will be participating in Remembrance and Reconciliation Month lessons to learn about historic African American communities in Montgomery County in honor of November 1, which is Emancipation Day in Maryland. These lessons will be taught by Mrs. Hirschhorn, Media Specialist, and they will be provided during the students' media time. Additional information and parent resources are provided within the link below.
Remembrance and Reconciliation Month (Spanish)
We will be conducting hearing and vision screening for students here at Cedar Grove on November 17, 18, 21, and 22 for all kindergarteners, first graders, second graders, and any student new to MCPS since screening was last done. If you have any questions, please call the school and ask to speak with our health tech or school nurse.
Many thanks to our parents who assisted teachers with the fall parties. The children had a wonderful day and enjoyed the activities, games, and treats. We appreciate all that you do for our kids.
Have a wonderful weekend!
