This week, students will be returning to develop a deeper understanding of the Other People Matter Mindset. Students will be discussing how their words and actions affect others.
"Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate, and to humble." -Yehuda Berg
International DOT Day!
International DOT DAY is Sunday, September 15, 2019. At HSES, we will celebrate DOT DAY on Friday, September 13th. We will be celebrating all that creativity inspires. We encourage all students and staff to be creative and wear DOTS this Friday! Most importantly, we will be inspiring students to make their mark. We cannot wait to celebrate with you!
Boosterthon!
Boosterthon is almost here and we cannot wait to enjoy it with our students. This year, we will be raising money to uplift our interiors, support technology, and to slide away at field day! We are so grateful for your support of this program as we continue our efforts to offer the best for our students everyday! We are excited to introduce our students to this years Booster team and to continue our work of building strong character within our students through this program!
This year’s main fundraiser is the Holly Springs Fun Run! It’s a two-week program that kicks off with a pep rally on 9/20 (T2,3,4) & 10/1 (T1). Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps) at the Holly Springs Fun Run, which will happen on 9/27 (T4) & 10/8 (T1,2,3). This year our goal is to raise $35,000 to Upfit Our Interior, Support Technology, and Slide Away at Field Day, and we need your help! We’ve asked the experts at booster to power our fundraiser to make it easier, more profitable, and more fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, mindspark: wild west! Booster’s most exciting theme yet combines s.t.e.a.m. skills (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) with character-building. While they're teaming up with the mindspark kids to save dr. Shock, our students will learn five character traits that will help strengthen themselves and our world.
Please help our school by getting pledges from family and friends and entering them on funrun.com. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on our students at the Holly Springs Fun Run. Thanks so much for your support!

Volunteers
Volunteers are welcome at HSES! If you plan to volunteer, you must be approved using the guidelines below. Now is a great opportunity to come into the school and register! If you have any additional questions, please contact the front office.
- All new volunteer applicants must register and have an approved criminal record check prior to engaging in volunteer work.
- All continuing volunteers approved for the 2019-2020 school year MUST reactivate as a volunteer no later than 4:00 p.m. on October 31, 2019. Reactivating volunteers may go to any WCPSS work site where they can register through www.wcpss.net by selecting the Community tab, and then selecting Volunteer Registration. Current volunteers, who provide a valid email address, will receive an email 15 days and 30 days prior to the expiration of their volunteer status reminding them to reactivate.
- Guests: Visitors who are never left alone with students are considered guests. They do not need background checks. Typical examples would include speakers, presenters and community members/parents attending a school event.
- Volunteers: Visitors who may be alone with students at any point do require background checks. There are no "levels" of volunteer status. You are either a volunteer who may be alone with students or you aren't. Typical examples range from a community volunteer who reads with a child to an overnight chaperone, as well as field day workers, testing proctors, and volunteer coaches. The same background check is done for every type of volunteer.
