Week of May 13, 2019
- During Readers' Workshop, we read and discussed Dairy of a Worm. We compared and contrasted the story with Dairy of a Spider, which we read earlier in the week.
- Also, the children read a lot of books independently to build their reading stamina and reading skills.
Writers' Workshop~
- As writers, we wrote a Haiku poem. A Haiku is a 3 line poem in which the first and last line contain 5 syllables and the second line contains 7 syllables. We made a cure ladybug to display our Haiku poems.
- We typed our "I Like Myself" poems that we wrote a few weeks ago. We also took a picture doing something fun that we like to do and added the picture to our writing.
- We completed our Animal Research projects. We used the internet to research the Life Cycle of our animal. We used a diagram with labels to illustrate our designated animal's life cycle.
- Also during Writers' Workshop, we took the interview questions that we answered with our Buddy and rewrote the information into good, detailed sentences. We typed our Buddy Biography information using iPads and computers through Google Classroom. Then, we decorated a person to look like our Buddy and display our Buddy Biography writings.
- We wrote 5 adjectives that describe us and created a flower to show our descriptive words.
Mathematicians~
- As mathematicians, we learned about fractions. We learned that when dividing shapes, all the parts must be of equal size.
- We learned that when you divide something into 2 equal parts, each part is a half. When you divide something into 3 equal parts, each part is called a third. Likewise, when you divide a shape into 4 equal parts, each part is called a fourth. We also learned that all the parts are called one whole.
- To reinforce our fraction skills, we created a fraction sundae. We named the parts of each ice cream flavor as a fraction of our sundae.
Science~
- As Entomologists, we continued to observer our caterpillars in the Chrysalis stage. We documented our observations in our Entomologist Journals.
Social Studies~
- On Monday we visited Greenfield Hall. We learned many interesting facts and details about the history of Haddonfield. Be sure to check out the photos below as well as ask us some of the interesting information we learned and artifacts we saw!
Other Activities~
- We had two more career shares ~ Mr. Katulka and Dr. Barrett. We had an awesome time learning about their careers.
- We celebrated all of our hard work by displaying our best exemplar work during Open House. Be sure to check out all our classroom Open House photos below.
- Also, we celebrated our amazing behavior by having a Reading Retreat. We also played our favorite board games, had extra recess, and watched a movie! Yay, us!!!

We had to say I Nominate then say whatever you need to say then you say the Award is blah, blah, blah. That is the Introduction then you have to do Reason 1! Witch is when you tell them Reasons why they should give it the Award. Reason 2 would be the same thing just a second Reason. After that there is a paper you would compare it to another book. Last it is the conclusion which you would write the same thing as the introduction just a couple of different things. Reporter Charlie signing off Hola! Amigos Last week in school on Tuesday my mom did her career share. My mom is a college counselor. She handed us papers to help us figure out what type of career we might like to do when we get older.
