The Bledsoe Beat
Growing students, socially, emotionally, and academically.
Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year!
We are excited to welcome back all of our returning students and families and extend a warm Bledsoe greeting to all of our first-time families. We can assure you that your child will have a rewarding and positive experience at Bledsoe Elementary. We consider it a privilege that you entrust your children to us each day, and we are counting on you to partner with us to maximize their educational experiences this year.
As we transition from summer to school we are asking that there are no visitors for lunch for the first two weeks of school. We want students to have time to get to know their classmates and learn routines and procedures. Although it is such a treat to eat with parents, it can be difficult for our younger students to see their parents. We appreciate your understanding!
Our Bledsoe Staff is ready to begin, and we all look forward to renewing friendships and meeting new friends as we return for another great school year.
Reminder - Meet the Teacher
Students in 1st - 5th grade should expect your phone call on Thursday, August 18th between the hours of 1:30 and 4:00 p.m. Do not worry if you won't be available during this time, as the teacher will leave a message and will also follow up with an e-mail. The teacher will remind you about bringing your supplies on meet the teacher night and we will all look forward to greeting you and your child at that time.
Kinder Meet the Teacher & Parent Orientation - Thursday, August 18th 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
Meet the Teacher 1st - 5th Grade - Friday, August 19th, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
First Day of School, August 22nd 7:45 - 2:55
Morning Arrival
All morning car drop-offs will be in the back driveway next to the playground. Please allow enough time for morning traffic (especially here at the beginning and on rainy days) in order to have your child dropped off by 7:35 am. This allows them time to walk to their classes with the rest of the students without feeling rushed.Walkers from Phillips Creek may cross at the steps on the east side of the school (a staff person will be on duty at 7:25 am to assist them) and then may either go to the cafeteria or to their class depending on their arrival time.
The front driveway of the school is reserved for daycare vans and families with an HOV tag. HOV tags are available for families carrying 3 or more Bledsoe students in their car. Great incentive for carpooling with neighbors!! Tags may be obtained in the front office at Meet the Teacher.
Dismissal and Pick Up
Students will be dismissed from school at 2:55 pm. We will continue to use the multi-lane pick-up system that we used last year. (Please see the traffic map below.)
Daycare vans will be in the front of the building. Students that are traveling to daycare will be dismissed from the cafeteria. Students may not be picked up by cars in the front of the building.
Walkers will be divided into two groups - Walkers and Phillips Creek Walkers.
Phillips Creek Walkers - students will be taken to the gym where they may meet siblings, and then school staff will escort them to the crosswalk located on the east side of the school where they will be able to walk to their homes. Parents may meet those walkers at the top of the steps by the field.
For car riders only: Younger siblings will be taken to the location of their older sibling to be dismissed at the end of the day. (EX: 1st grade brother will be taken to meet 4th grade sister, and the two of them will be picked up in the 4th/5th grade car rider dismissal area. All other students (K-5) will be dismissed from their assigned areas. There are three lanes of traffic that will begin as you enter the school driveway on the west side of the school. The two lanes closest to the building are for student pickup only. Parents are not to park in these lanes and get out of their cars. The far left lane will be for moving traffic only. This lane must remember to SLOW DOWN and watch for students and teachers!! Please do not park in the third lane as this will block all thru traffic. There are designated pick-up areas indicated by signs as to where each grade level car riders will be picked up by parents. Please note: 4th/5th graders are first on the west side of the school, 2nd/3rd graders are located in the back, and Kinder/1st grade are by the playground.

Arrival and Dismissal Safety Tips!
- Walkers - Plan ahead the location you will pick up your child.
- There are two differents ways students leave the building to walk home. Know and tell your child which walker group they should be in.
- Walker - students walk out the front and meet parents in the front of the school.
- Phillips Creek Walker - Students will exit the gym doors and staff will walk them across the crosswalk to the Phillips Creek Ranch.
- Although the first day is special, consider letting them go home the way they normally would the other days. Consistency helps us with our procedures and routines.
- Arrival and Dismissal Car - please be patient with us! Drive slowly and know we are going to go slow to make sure we take care of your precious children!
Visitors
Please remember that each year you must have your driver's license scanned the first time you enter our building during school hours. Also, if you plan to volunteer at the school or attend field trips with your child, you must complete a background check. Please see the FISD website for this information, or you may ask for assistance in our front office. This must also be done at the beginning fo every school year.
Be Your Child's Superhero and Join PTA!
Our dynamic Bledsoe PTA, led by President Jennifer Lankford, has been instrumental in helping to make Bledsoe the best school in the nation. Our PTA is outstanding, and works with parents, teachers, and families to ensure that each student at Bledsoe has access to the best educational experience possible. We will have PTA representatives here on Meet the Teacher Night. Please stop by their booth to take advantage of this time to join PTA, purchase spirit gear, and sign up for volunteering to help with other fun PTA initiatives.
