5th Grade Flyer
College Park Elementary
Welcome to the first week of 5th Grade!
We have also been meeting our students virtually and working with them on turning in assignments.
Attendance is very important. Please have your child log in to our virtual zoom meetings. The links are posted in our classrooms. If they are working ahead on assignments instead of coming to our zoom meetings, they are missing important instruction.
If you have trouble with tech, we are here to help. This is also a great website for parents for your technology needs.

Hope 4 Healers Helpline
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is expanding the Hope4Healers Helpline (919-226-2002) to serve North Carolina’s teachers, school personnel and their families.
With schools opening in-person and remotely across the state under new health and safety procedures, NCDHHS and the NC Psychological Foundation can provide these personnel with mental health and resilience supports through Hope4Healers. Hope4Healers is available 24 hours per day, seven days a week. When teachers, school personnel or family members call the helpline, they will speak to someone who is trained to listen and offer support. They then will be contacted within about a day by a licensed mental health professional for a free, confidential, short-term follow-up by phone or video chat.
“Our children across the state will be best served by educators and school staff who are taking care of their own mental health needs,” said NCDHHS Deputy Secretary for Behavioral Health and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Kody Kinsley. “Our educators and school teams are working in an unprecedented situation on the front lines of the state’s COVID-19 response. We want to make sure they have access to the mental health and resilience supports they may need to feel like their best selves in the classroom – whether they are teaching in-person or remotely.”
UNCW Tutoring
For the 2020 fall semester, the UNCW Ed Lab is offering one-to-one online tutoring via ZOOM for students in grades K-5. UNCW students who are becoming teachers tutor as part of their coursework. The dates for tutoring this semester are August 31 – November 20. Over that time, tutors will teach two times each week for a total of 20 sessions. There are three options for tutoring:
- Combo Reading & Math tutoring – twice a week for one hour and 15 minutes. Reading and math instruction will be a part of each tutoring session.
- Reading only – twice a week for one hour.
- Math only – twice a week for one hour. We have very few ‘math only’ tutors this semester.
Because tutors are completing this as part of their coursework, they will design and teach individualized, child-specific lessons. That means Ed Lab tutoring time will not be used to complete work from school. Think of it as personalized, supplemental instruction.
We have set a reduced, flat tutoring fee for this semester of $100. We have set up an online payment system and will only accept credit card payments made through that system. Ed Lab scholarships will not be offered this semester.
You can read more about our plans for online tutoring on the Ed Lab website. If you would like to sign up for tutoring, follow these three steps:
1. Read and Sign Parent Agreement AND Ed Lab Online Consent Form.
2. Complete the Ed Lab fee payment using the online payment system.
3. Return the forms and request combo, reading only or math only tutoring by emailing me, brinkleyb@uncw.edu.
