Mrs. Sumner's Classroom News

January 11, 2016

I hope that everyone enjoyed your snow days!

I wanted to give you an update on the DIBELS results that I just received at the end of last week. I am super proud of the kids progress, their scores have doubled and tripled since the beginning of the year. I will be sending home a sheet that explains what there score were and what categories they were assessed on. I am also going to put the scores that they received when they were tested at the beginning of the year. This way you will be able to compare the two and see their growth. You will also be able to see what areas your child may need more help in.

Academic Corner

Reading - We are working on reading stories and using the "Re-tell Glove". They are really like this tool to help them work on re-telling after they have read a book. I am in the process of making every child their own glove and they should have them in their book boxes the first week of February.

Writing - Students will continue writing stories about their lives (small moments). I am seeing some amazing writing pieces from the kids. I will send them home after report cards are distributed.

Math - Due to the snow days, we will be pushing back the Topic 13 assessment to Friday.

Draw to Write

I started Project 64 with the kids last week and they loved it. This program is designed to help kids with their fine motor skills and strengthen their little hands to help them become fabulous writers. Last week, they drew a pencil. This Thursday they will be drawing a mouse. Please be sure to have your child show you their masterpiece.
