-A representative from the SAMs Project will be shadowing me this week. She/He will just be taking data. The intent is for her/him to be "invisible". (And it could be awkward when the representative doesn't speak to you. Please don't take it personally.) Just FYI.
-Mr. Cooper and I will begin formal walkthroughs this week. You should receive an email after we visit.

Keeping You in the Loop About Building Technology
Last school year, we received two carts with 30 computers on each cart from Ignite 1 schools. One was for elementary and one was for middle school. Since the elementary was smaller and they had adequate laptops, I asked Brandon Randall to split the computers on four carts with 15 computers on each cart. There was a cart for elementary, 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Unfortunately, the elementary classes have grown. They need the cart of 15 now. So there will now be one cart of 15 upstairs and one cart of 15 downstairs for MS. (These carts can and should be used for iReady testing.)
It is my hope that we will receive an abundance of laptops in October when they redistribute the Ignite 2 schools former devices. My priority will be to get those devices in the classrooms as quickly as possible.

Technology Update (This information was provided to principals from Bruce Douglas on August 14th after our Kick-Off so I did not share this info with you---Just an FYI.)
· Student passwords for Canvas has changed to match the student’s SPS Google account login. This was an overwhelming request from teachers we are happy to accommodate. Librarians and Clericals have permissions to reset passwords as needed, and the Help Desk is always available to assist.
· Beginning on August 15th, a guest WiFi network will be deployed to the five high schools. The WiFi network is named SPS-Guest and can be used by visitors to access our network in a secure manner. By the end of the first quarter this network will be available in all SPS buildings for our guests.
· This year all Kelly subs will be issued a personal login account. This account will provide them with access to Google, Canvas, and Windows devices. The goal is for teachers and other staff members to no longer provide their login to substitutes. This is the start of this process and we’re excited to make improvements as we see needs arise.
· With so many resources being added to the Internet everyday, we know adjustments to district filtering will need to be made. Whether there is a new website that will provide your students an awesome learning experience or a website that no person on Earth should see, we will work with them to ensure we are taking the proper steps in adjusting the district filtering rules.
· Accessories for the HP Hybrid may still be requested by using this form. We will continue to provide these accessories as we near the removal of teacher desktop in November.
· As a reminder, certified staff that received a HP Hybrid will have their desktop or existing device removed this school year. This process will begin in November and will take several months. Before we remove any device we’ll be providing additional information about when and what to expect. Along with that communication we’ll be working to get all HP Hybrids upgraded to Windows 10 and assist staff with getting their files moved from their old device.
