Salk Seahawk Scoop
Week of 8/29/2022
A Note From the Principal
Dear Salk Families,
It has been wonderful spending the last week at Salk Elementary, supporting teachers and meeting families. We are excited to welcome Dr. Sikorski as the interim principal at Salk for the start of the year. You should have received an email introducing her earlier today.
The first day of school will be on Monday, August 29th. This day is a half day and we begin at 11:30. We will not serve lunch or snacks on this day. Please know staff will also be out front and visible to direct students as necessary this week. School-Aged Child Care (SACC) is not available to registered families in the AM on this day.
To keep families abreast of Salk happenings, Seahawk Scoop will continue to be published weekly and emailed home on Sundays.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sara Delgado
Director of Elementary Instruction
Salk Verification Form - Due Tuesday, September 6
All students will be sent home with a Data Verification Card next week. Please fill this form out and return it ASAP so we have this important information to update our contacts in our system. The form is bright GREEN. All forms should be submitted by Tuesday, September 6th.
Please reach out to our Main Office at 439-6800 with questions.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.
Find Your Child's Bus Stop Online
Bus stop information will be available online for the 2022–2023 school year starting August 29. You can access your child’s bus stop information by visiting www.fraser.k12.mi.us. Click on the "Bus Stops" link and enter your address to retrieve your child’s bus stop information.
It is very important to check your child’s bus stop, as routes have been modified for the 2022–2023 school year.
Students will be assigned a route number in lieu of a bus number. The route number is located on the left side of the entry door. To ensure transportation, all students must be at their bus stop 10 minutes prior to the scheduled arrival time.
Please review with your child the bus rules found on the Transportation Department’s website
Free and Reduced Lunch
When the 2021-2022 school year ended, so did free meals for every student. While the federal government funded a program that allowed all students access to free meals during the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress has declined to continue funding this program.
- Parents should submit a free & reduced application to determine if they qualify for free or reduced priced meals.
- There is a carry over period (30 school days from the first day of school) where students can use their status from the previous school year. This ONLY applies to actual benefits, meaning not all students are free for 30 days to start the year because everyone was free last year.
- Meal prices will remain the same as they were pre-Covid (last time students had to pay).
- Elementary Breakfast $1.35
- Reduced Breakfast $0.30
- Elementary Lunch $2.35
- Reduced Lunch $0.40
- We will be using a monthly Meal Order Form. Parents must complete the Meal Order Form each month in order to receive breakfast or lunch. These should be submitted to the Meal Coordinators prior to the start of the next month.
- Fresh fruit & vegetable bars are back!
- All prepayments should be made ONLINE using the new Family Portal.
Please complete the 2022-2023 online application below to find out if your family qualifies for free or reduced-price meals.
