Mrs. Mathe's Message
Thursday we kicked off our main fundraiser for the year, Boosterthon Fun Run. We started with a pep rally to get students excited about this event. Throughout the week next week, students will learn about character traits as well as virtually travel to 5 different national parks. It is going to be a blast! We hope you can join us Friday to cheer on your Panther as they run laps around the Boosterthon track!
On a different note, we have a new attraction here at Powell; a pencil machine. Students will now have the opportunity to spend a part of their hard earned money to purchase their very own pencil. Each pencil costs 50 cents. Students are able to make a purchse in the mornings, or if they have permission from their teacher to go during class time.
BONUS PRIZE THIS WEEKEND
This weekend ONLY, students can earn a BONUS PRIZE by getting pledges on mybooster.com. Thanks for helping our school raise funds this year and have a GREAT weekend!!

Powell's Philanthrapy Project
We had such an amazing response to our philanthrapy project last year, raising money for the Sickle Cell Foundation. We have decided to continue this tradition of helping others with another Penny War! This year we want to raise funds for another organization that will impact our Powell community in a positive way. Please use the space below to submit your suggestion for a deserving organization. Our Campus Events Committee will consider all submissions. A blind vote will occur to select the organization we will raise funds for this school year.
*Penny Wars will occur in March* Information to come soon about the Penny Wars.

Jeans for Love
Last week your child should have brought home an envelope and a note explaining Jeans for Love. The last day to purchase passes will be February 13th. We will deliver all gifted passes to our staff on February 14th. If you are in need of more passes, please let us know, the front office has extra copies.
Thank you for always being so supportive of our teachers and staff!
Neighborhood Concerns
We continue to receive emails and phone calls from concerned community members regarding Powell families parking along their streets and on the grass along the curb in neighborhoods when picking up children from school. We dismiss 900 students from school daily. Our number one goal is always safety, but we also value efficiency and respect for our surrounding neighborhoods. When Powell parents park along the curb in neighborhoods and wait for dismissal, it blocks the flow of traffic for emergency vehicles, buses, trash pick up, and residents. It has been leaving deep divets in the grass and creates a safety hazard for those that utilize the street to walk home.
We all would appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a safe and orderly dismissal daily at Powell and respecting our neighbors. Thank you!
A Note from the Attendance Office
We have noticed a significant increase in students arriving tardy at Powell. If you are driving or walking your child to our campus in the morning, please note that our doors open at 7:30am and tardies are taken by scanning your child’s backpack tag as they pass through our front doors after 8:00am. We realize that our car line can get backed up the closer you arrive to 8:00am so we suggest you make plans to arrive early enough to not only get through the carline, but also early enough that your child enters our doors by 8:00am. We cannot control traffic, nor weather, so please make adjustments to your morning routine so we can cut down on our students habitually arriving late.
Attendance 101- Did you know that parents are requested to call our front office EVERY DAY their child is absent along with the reason for the absence? Many parents let the teachers know but that should not take the place of calling or email the front office at 936-709-1700 or ContactPowell@ConroeISD.net. When you let us know of their absence, we are able to excuse the absence if they are sick, attending a doctor or dentist appointment, or funeral for example. Then, if they were sick and see a doctor, we ask that you send in the doctor’s note upon their return. Letting the teacher know of the absence is helpful for making up missed work but the attendance office may not always receive notes from the teachers during their busy days.
