National School Counseling Week 2019

This week (February 4-8, 2019) is National School Counseling Week. This week is sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) to highlight the unique contribution of school counselors within the U.S. school systems and recognize the tremendous impact they can have in helping students achieve school success. We would like to thank our school counselor at Walker Elementary, Mrs. Erin Waterman, for the work she does each and every day to make our students successful. Mrs. Waterman organizes our character education program. Mrs. Waterman teaches monthly guidance lessons that teach our character word of the month and offers students support in acquiring social and emotional skills. Mrs. Waterman sponsors our student ambassador program where she works with this group to teach leadership and service. Supporting student attendance is something that Mrs. Waterman is always working on behind the scenes. Mrs. Waterman also coordinates the snack pack program with Samaritan Community Center to provide weekend food for Walker students in need.

Two outside agencies provide school-based therapy at Walker Elementary. Ozark Guidance and Youth Bridge both provide counselors and behavioral therapists to work with students during the school day at Walker. If you have questions about your child's social and emotional well being and are interested in starting school-based services, please call the school office and ask to speak to an administrator.

Safety Reminders for Parents and Visitors

All visitors to the school must check in at the office and present a driver’s license or state issued ID to obtain a Visitor’s Badge at all times. All guests must check in at the front office and this does include if a parent walks a child to the classroom before the start of the school day. These procedures are for the safety of all of our students and we appreciate your support in following them.

Our doors open for students at 7:20 a.m. Please do not drop your child off and leave them unattended on the front porch before this time. Our school day begins promptly at 8:00 a.m. If you are dropping off at 7:59 a.m., you will need to come into the school and check your child in as tardy.

To keep the flow of traffic moving, we ask that all parents use the car line to drop off students. We work to move our car line as quickly as possible and if everyone will go through the line, we can keep it moving and get everyone out faster.
