Background Information
The Monuments Men was a group of people that volunteered for service during World War 2. They wanted to protect the artistic and cultural treasures of the U.S. and many of them had skills as museum educators, directors, curators, art historians, artists, architects, and educators. More than 5 million pieces of artwork stolen by the Nazis or Hitler were returned.
