To Be A Champion For All Students, Confronting Biases Is Necessary

When we as educators are not aware of the repercussions of our biases, we have the potential to be unfair and judgmental of students who do not fit into our definition of a student. Research states that this is more likely to occur with minority students or students from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

We can begin to confront our biases when we reflect on our actions as educators. Ask yourself, how do I treat students who do not meet my personal expectations of what a student should be? Having empathy may give you what it takes to turn a student around. You may be the only adult your students may connect with on a daily basis because you have taken a vested interest in their success.

Consider the following quote: All students can learn... just not the same way.

Have a great week and as always... It's a Great Day to be a Chieftain!
