What's Your Classroom Management Style?
Does My Student Have to Read at Home?
What is Flexible Seating?
1. Choice
Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment.
2. Physical Health
Children need to move. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength.
3. Comfort
An uncomfortable student, is a distracted and unproductive student.
4. Community
Traditional desks can make students territorial or possessive over their space and supplies.
5. Collaboration
Flexible seating allows students to quickly and easily pair up, work in small groups, or discuss as a whole class – without moving mountains of heavy desks to establish eye contact.
6. Commitment to Learning
While research on flexible seating is limited, it’s clear that learning environments can have a direct impact on student achievement.
7. Communication
No one is naive enough to believe that flexible seating simply happens. Up front, teacher must establish some new classroom management tools. That includes creating a system to make seating choice fair and nondisruptive.
It also requires introducing higher-order thinking skills, like problem-solving, and emotional skills, like conflict resolution. There’s also much value in fostering turn-taking and patience – especially for a generation of kids immersed in immediate gratification.
8. Sensory Input
Many flexible seating options stimulate students’ sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help children focus and process information
9. Fun
Flexible seating helps make learning fun.

What are the Expectations on Learning Math Facts?
How Do You Personalize Learning?
What is Guided Learning?
In a guided learning environment, students rotate around different centers and activities and work independently, or in a small group with the teacher. This way, I can support each child’s development of mastery at increasing levels of difficulty.
I really think as myself as a 'guide' with this type of teaching. Student learning is reinforced, supported or extended in various activities, while I sit and teach new material to my small group. Below is an outline of my guided math time, which occurs 60 minutes every day.
Each rotation lasts for approximately 20-25 minutes. Whatever was not completed in the present day, is the first rotation the next day.
With teacher: new material, guided practice, check- ins, or assessments
Technology: iReady lesson (personally and individually added), First In Math (working towards math goals)
Independent Practice: Working by themselves on work that I have provided. I use this as check-ins and feedback on achievement of emerging mastery
Hands On/Real Life Connection: Students have the opportunity to explore or create something that extends their learning in a new way. This center changes for each chapter.
How Will My Student Get to Celebrate Their Birthday?
The ideal time for a birthday party is typically in the afternoon from 3:10-3:30pm. Please note our healthy treat policy and contact Mrs. Kleifges or Mrs. Rudnicki with any questions.
In order to avoid hurt feelings, please do not distribute party invitations in our classroom unless every child is invited to the party. This ensures that children in our class will not be placed in an uncomfortable situation or get their feelings hurt.
If your child has an August or September birthday, please let me know immediately so we can schedule these celebration dates in our classroom. June and July birthdays will be celebrated towards the end of our year in May.
Can I Be a Part of Holiday Parties or Field Trips?
If you would like to attend a field trip we typically have a few spots available. We'd love to have the extra set of eyes while we learn outside the classroom. Overnight field trips, parents, will need to have a background check completed prior to departure.
