November in the Library
2017
Spotlight on: Gratitude
In November, the newly formed Library Squad created a bulletin board display on being grateful for books. It came out great!
November Makerspace: Jewelry Making
For our November Makerspace activity, students could create a piece of jewelry. Using beads and elastic thread students make bracelets, necklaces, and earrings.
National Novel Writing Month
15 students took on the challenge writing a whole novel in just one month! Each student set a word count goal and worked hard through November. Not everyone reached their goal, but all students are well on their way to their first novel! Next step: editing.
Collaborating with Teachers
- Ms. Unger and Ms. Lechan worked on a lesson for detecting fake news that was taught in 7th grade CORE.
- Ms. Cummings and Ms. Lechan worked on a book list to supplement classrooms for a new reading program.
New Reading Initiative!
A new reading initiative is beginning at DMS. Faculty and staff will each have a sign outside their door or office which shows what they're currently reading. The goal is to illustrate that we are a community of readers!

Vincent and Theo: The Van Gogh Brothers by Deborah Heiligman
The deep and enduring friendship between Vincent and Theo Van Gogh shaped both brothers' lives. Confidant, champion, sympathizer, friend, Theo supported Vincent as he struggled to find his path in life. They shared everything, swapping stories of lovers and friends, successes and disappointments, dreams and ambitions. Meticulously researched, drawing on the 658 letters Vincent wrote to Theo during his lifetime, Deborah Heiligman weaves a tale of two lives intertwined and the love of the Van Gogh brothers. --From Goodreads.com
