2023 WASHINGTON DC TRIP

Big picture
FJH 8th graders recently returned from the annual class trip to Washington D.C. and had an incredible experience. Mr. Heiniger (8th grade social studies teacher) will again be sponsoring the trip through Worldstrides next year over President’s Day weekend. Students will fly out to our nation’s capital Saturday-Monday and visit many of the Smithsonian Museums such as the Natural and American History Museums, the Air and Space Museum, as well as the Holocaust Museum. They will also be visiting Ford’s Theatre, Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, the Capitol, Supreme Court, National Cathedral, and many other monuments and memorials. Students received detailed information packets from their social studies teacher that contain early sign-up discounts and an opportunity to lock in a $100 discount off next year’s price if they register by May 18th. There will also be an optional parent meeting on April 27th at 7:00pm in the FJH Media Center for additional information. Don’t let your son or daughter miss this once in a lifetime opportunity!

FJH Renovation Update

Our first phase of renovations began with the remodel of our Media Center and was completed in March 2020. The current phase of the remodeling process started in August 2021 and is scheduled to be completed December 2022. So far, the transformation has been amazing! The entire project will remodel classrooms, update bathrooms, create a new guidance office, and improve the main office. In addition, FJH will receive new furniture and equipment to help foster an environment of creativity and collaboration through-out the building.


The project is taking place in several phases. While a section of the building is being worked on, students are taught in purposely designed temporary classrooms. This process has been used throughout the district on several other renovation projects. The temporary classrooms are designed to function as a normal classroom with similar features to minimize any impact to students and staff. This project is taking place while the school is occupied, requiring patience and flexibility from staff as well as students. Our amazing FJH students and staff have had no trouble rising to the challenge. Students and staff alike have volunteered their time to help teachers move classrooms. One resourceful teacher was even able to enlist help from our local city councilmen to pack her classroom.


Bob Reagan with CPM Construction has been amazing at communicating the process involved for each phase of the renovation. He has become a friendly face at FJH and has been affectionately nicknamed “Bob the Builder”. He has welcomed feedback from staff and pivoted effortlessly when necessary to solve unforeseen circumstances that arise during a renovation of this magnitude. The partnership between Bob and Logan Nunn, our HSE Project Manager, has made this renovation seamless. We are currently months ahead of schedule due to the diligent collaboration between Bob, Logan, staff, and students. Our renovation has gone so well that Bob and CPM construction have been invited to bid on the Lantern Road Elementary renovation project. We are looking forward to our finished project and the additional benefits the renovation will provide to students and staff.

SCHEDULING FOR 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR

Parents were able to view course requests in Skyward the week of April 11th-18th. If a student would like to change the elective they chose, their parent/guardian must contact the guidance office to make that change, students are no longer able to request changes to their courses for next year. Please remember changes to course requests will not be made after the last day of school, which is May 20th. Schedules will be available for viewing on Skyward for Preview Day, which is July 27, 2022.

WITHDRAWING YOUR STUDENT

If your child will be withdrawing from FJH, you must notify the Guidance office in advance of your student’s last day. Withdrawal forms prepared by the Guidance office must be signed by the parent/guardian.


2022-2023 School Year: If your child will be attending another school outside HSE School District next year, please call the Guidance office at 317-594-4150, ext. 5713 before May 1st so records can be prepared for the new school.

21ST CENTURY SCHOLARS

Indiana's 21st Century Scholars Program is the state’s premier college scholarship and preparation program for low-income Hoosier students. Students who fulfill the Scholar Pledge are provided up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible college or university. Scholars also receive a variety of support services designed to help them succeed in school and complete college.

The Butler Way Future-Focused Leadership Academy will be held in person from June 13 - June 16 from 9 - 4 pm. The cost for Empowering Future Leaders: The Butler Way is $75 per student. Limited scholarships will be available. The cost will cover lunch, materials, speakers, camp shirts, and activities. Any student entering grades nine through twelve for the 2022-2023 school year are eligible to attend. Student leaders, such as those serving as Student Council representatives, class moderators, NHS participants, team captains, etc., would greatly benefit from this experience. They will learn invaluable leadership skills that will both help them and your school! IB Diploma students can use this experience to earn CAS hours or even complete their CAS project. Any student interested in developing their leadership skills are encouraged to attend.

Many of the Fishers Junior High Community will be participating in this years Geist 5k and you can join in on the fun. Run, walk or crawl……whatever it takes to cross the finish line on May 22nd.   7. Be sure to enter your team name at the drop down menu!
  8. Agree to waiver.

Boys Volleyball is BACK this Spring:

Due to interest, Mudsock Youth Volleyball will be running sessions for 3rd - 8th graders from April 22nd - May 15th on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
