Lenox Elementary Newsletter
Week of February 7th
Greetings Lenox Families/Saludos Familias Lenox
February marks the start of the second semester. Can you believe we are already half way through the school year? I am so proud of our teachers and students and want to thank our Lenox community for their partnership and support as we navigate these current times. We are truly stronger together!
Special shoutout to our Booster Club for organizing and supporting our Win with Reading Program and our recent Book Fair. I am in awe of how our community worked together to ensure that every student was able to purchase a book.
Last week we were also able to celebrate all of our students at our Q2 PRIDE! Assembly. We are very proud of how our students show PRIDE each day and had fun celebrating classes who earned PRIDE awards and individual students who were selected as strong models of Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, Enthusiasm, and Compassion. We even had a few primary and secondary students and teachers battle during our Minute to Win It Challenge! Please join us in celebrating all of these amazing students and their hard work - Slideshow HERE
There are many things happening this month both in school and in our community; be sure to check out all of the details below. And, as a reminder, if you ever have questions, suggestions, or wonderings, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's classroom teacher, the office or me. Communication and connection are key to our success!

Important News & Notes
Some teachers may be sending communication regarding the opportunity for students to bring in cards for classmates. As we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our community, we are asking that no treats and or food be attached to cards. Stickers, pencils, erasers, etc are okay. Thank you for your support in these efforts!
Comprehensive Sexuality Education
As part of our health education program, our district provides age appropriate, comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) for all students, K-12. All instruction is based on Oregon Law and the Oregon Health Education Standards and Performance Indicators adopted by the Oregon State Board of Education in December of 2016.
Three key laws guide our sexuality education efforts:
Human Sexuality Education (2009),
Healthy Teen Relationships (2013), and
Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Education (2015)
In communication with superintendents and principals, the Director of the Oregon Department of Education, Colt Gill, explained that “These laws provide for consistent instruction, are based on the most current evidence and best practices, and equip students with the knowledge and skills to realize their health, well-being, and educational goals. Sexuality education supports young people with skills to delay sexual initiation, prevent unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), promote their own health, and reduce sexual violence, harassment, and bullying.” In the Hillsboro School District, we are committed to the delivery of this content by skilled, caring, and dedicated staff, in safe, inclusive environments.
HSD’s Comprehensive Sexuality Education Plan includes the right of parents/guardians to be notified of upcoming sexual health lessons (as is the purpose of this letter), to review instructional materials, and to propose alternative learning activities for their student(s) if they choose to.
Your student's classroom teacher will be sending you a letter (looking just like this) this week which will provide the exact days/times of the lessons at their grade level. Students who are opted out of lessons will be provided an alternate location to do an alternate activity during the lessons.
As a parent/guardian, we encourage you to learn more about our K-12 Comprehensive Sexuality Plan and teaching materials. To make this as easy as possible, we have posted documents on our Comprehensive Sexuality Education Plan website that outline the standards, curricula, and instructional materials used at each grade-level. (Note: If/when materials cannot be posted online due to copyright restrictions, you may call the school and make an appointment to view them in person.) Remember, parents/guardians have the right to utilize our opt-out process if they wish to have their student(s) participate in alternate activities during sexual health instruction (Opt-Out Form).
If you have any questions/concerns about the health curriculum, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
