Charger Report
January 2024
Peacock Parents,
Happy New Year! I hope that you had a joyful holiday season and I look forward to seeing your student on Monday, January 8th.
As we reflect on the first half of the school year, I am filled with gratitude for the tremendous support we have received from our dedicated parent community. Your commitment to your child’s education and involvement in school activities has made a significant impact on the positive atmosphere at Peacock Middle School.
Our students have displayed commendable dedication, both within and outside of the classroom as they acquire skills that build upon their educational foundation. Their active participation in Peacock Pride Days, engaging in diverse extracurricular activities, contributing to community service projects, and showcasing their talents in fine arts all play a vital role in molding them into well-rounded individuals. The remarkable progress our students have achieved is a testament to the collective commitment and collaboration between our educators, students, and parents.
As we embark on the second half of the school year, I encourage both students and parents to continue this positive momentum. Together, let’s maintain the focus on academic excellence and active participation in school life. Your continued support is invaluable and it plays a crucial role in shaping the overall success of our students.
I am confident that with our collective efforts, the rest of the school year will be filled with even more accomplishments, growth, and memorable experiences for our students. Let's work together to ensure that every child reaches their full potential and achieves the goals they have set for themselves.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Brooke Krey, Principal

Winter Assessments
During the month of January our students will be taking AIMSweb and iReady assessments. Students in grades 1 - 8 are assessed with our iReady diagnostic assessment.
The most important thing we can do is prepare students and motivate them to put forth their best effort.
Here are a few things you can do to help support your student:
- Make sure they get a good night’s rest before taking the Diagnostic!
- Talk to your student about why the second Diagnostic is important. You can say things like:
- The second Diagnostic helps you find out how much progress you’ve made since the beginning of the year.
- It allows your teacher and I to celebrate your accomplishments!
- Try your best, and do not rush
Like a portfolio of pictures, the above two assessments are two snapshots of your child's learning progress. It is our hope that we continue to partner with you to ensure that your child is challenged and supported in their learning throughout the school year. Additionally, Lake Park High School will use winter iReady scores as one measure to guide academic placement in 9th grade.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your student’s learning.
Student Attendance
Attendance is important! - Peacock's goal is 95% attendance!
Attendance patterns are monitored regularly by school staff. If the number of days missed to school is equal to 5% of the total days that school has been in session, a referral will be made to the DuPage County Truancy Office. This means that the truancy officer will contact you for problem solving in order to improve the child’s school attendance. A student who misses 5% or more of school every year will lose ONE FULL ACADEMIC YEAR of learning before reaching high school graduation. Poor attendance or repeated tardiness will impact a student's eligibility to participate in field trips, extra-curricular events, and school events.
If your child has a medical condition that is contributing to missed school days, contact the school nurse.
School Start & End Times
- 7:45 am - 2:50 pm (class begins at 7:50 AM)
- 7:50 am - 12:40 pm (Early Release Wednesdays)
Supervision of students does not begin until 7:40 AM. Please do not drop your student off prior to 7:40 AM.
Students are dismissed from morning supervision at 7:45 AM to transition to their first-period class. The first period begins at 7:50 AM. Students that arrive to class after 7:50 AM are marked tardy.
Winter Weather
As a reminder, during snowy/cold weather, students will still be outside for the lunch activity and during morning arrival. Please remind your children to dress properly for this type of weather! If the temperature or wind chill is at 20 degrees or lower, students will NOT go outside and have an alternate indoor activity.
Emergency School Closure
All families will be notified via a phone call if school is cancelled. It is imperative that the school always has your updated phone number.
In addition, District 10 is a member of the (ECC) Emergency Closing Center. District 10 reports school closing information to the ECC and it is then broadcast on WGN-AM (720), WBBM Radio 780 AM, CBS Ch. 2, NBC Ch. 5, ABC Ch. 7, WGN Ch. 9, WFLD FOX and CLTV cable.
Athletic Home & Away Games
Additionally, all Peacock students attending away athletic games at Wood Dale JH, Roselle Middle, Medinah Middle, Westfield, or Spring Wood must have an adult supervisor accompany them.
All HOME athletic games are live streamed during the event here:https://www.itasca10.org/live.

Student Handbook Highlights
Cell Phones & Electronic Devices
Peacock's cell phone/electronic device policy is the following:
- Devices should not used without direct permission from a staff member
- Devices should not be seen, used, or heard during school hours unless given permission by a staff member. This includes morning supervision and after school activities.
- Students can use the "student phone" in the office should they need to communicate with their parents
We appreciate your support and partnership as we teach and reinforce these expectations. Students can use their device before or after school hours. Additional information in regards to this policy can be found in the Peacock Student Handbook.
Lunch
Students will eat lunch with their grade levels. Seating will be assigned and student may have choice/input into location. All students are expected to bring a lunch to school unless they are purchasing lunch from the PTO. Students will have access to vending machines that include snacks (chips, Gatorade, water, etc.) only during their lunch hours. Should a student forget their lunch, they can call a parent/guardian from the front office. Parents can drop-off lunches in the front vestibule for students to pick-up during their lunch period. Please label your child's lunch with their first and last name. Students will not be dismissed from class early to receive a lunch delivery. Deliveries made through a restaurant, Uber Eats, Door Dash, etc. will not be accepted at the front office. Additionally, food items or "treat bags" sent to share with other students will not be accepted and sent home with the student.
