Principal's Message
Mariner Families and Community,
We are already two weeks into the 2020-21 school year! The first seven days were set aside to focus on student and family engagement. Our staff has enjoyed the one on one conversations with each student, and we want to ensure that students and families become comfortable with Schoology and the technology involved in distance learning. Beginning Monday, September 14th, students can expect new content for each class and they will be responsible to engage daily and complete schoolwork. Teachers will also be grading student work similar to what it was like before school closures. We realize the transition to teaching and learning remotely is not easy, and we appreciate the family involvement and your patience in this process. We encourage you to check in often on your student’s classes, and please contact the teacher if you have any questions. I’m happy to report that we’ve had excellent attendance the first two weeks of distance learning. Please encourage your student to log into Schoology every day so they get counted for being present. It was great to see the faces (masked!) of many students at our materials distribution days this week. If your student still needs to pick up textbooks, other school supplies, or they need technology help, please visit the Mariner HS main office on Monday-Friday from 7:30am-3:00pm. We’ll make sure every student gets what they need to be successful in school. We are in the process of planning a virtual Open House on October 21st. We’ll have a live “Town Hall” general meeting, and then you’ll be able to attend a Zoom meeting with your student’s teachers. Stay tuned for dates and times for this event. Thanks for your partnership to ensure a great education for each student. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Go Marauders!

Schoology Support
Counseling Corner
Greetings from the counseling department!
We are happy to be back this school year to support all our students through distance learning, though we hope we see you face-to-face soon!
A few things we want to communicate with you:
- Deadline for class changes was September 4th. If you still have concerns/questions about classes, please contact your counselor.
- Counselors have been working hard on schedules, new enrollments, emails, and calls from students/parents regarding Schoology, Sno-Isle, among other concerns and questions that have come up.
- We continue to work with our Running Start Students that are still signing up for the program.
- Now that student-initiated changes to schedules have subsided, counselors will be working with Seniors on their graduation plan. We will be sending Senior letters out to families in October, notifying you of the graduation status and other requirements your student might still need to complete by June 2021.

Career & College Readiness Center
September 1st University applications became available. This year seniors can expect most universities to be test-optional or test blind, meaning the SAT or ACT will not be required, possibly not used at all, for admission decisions. Seniors should read their university applications carefully and contact look at application requirements on university, websites to provide just what is needed for their applications.
October 1st Seniors can start their financial aid applications, even if they aren’t sure where they want to go to school. US citizens and eligible non-citizens complete the FAFSA. The WASFA is the state application for undocumented students in Washington. The earlier students apply, the better the chances of being considered for various kinds of financial aid. More information can be found at these links:
- FAFSA: https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa
- WASFA: https://readysetgrad.wa.gov/wasfa-washington-application-state-financial-aid
November 15th The earliest deadline for Washington universities has traditionally been November 15th at UW-Seattle. Seniors applying to universities should start their applications now! Applications should be available at the university websites and are completed online.
MHS Career & College Readiness Center website: https://www.mukilteoschools.org/domain/564 Check it often as it will be updated continually with virtual college and career rep visits and other events to help students prepare for life after graduation!
Transcript Requests: As students complete their university applications, they might need an official or unofficial transcript. All transcript requests are made through a website called Parchment. Seniors are encouraged to start an account now by visiting https://www.parchment.com/. Remember to request transcripts 2 weeks ahead of deadlines whenever possible!

FAMILY ORIENTATION VIDEOS

This is a growing library of brief videos to help families connect with school staff through Zoom meetings, email, and learn how to use learning tools such as Schoology. Please check back often for more videos coming soon! Connect Casino Road is a collaborative organization with representatives from Everett Community College and Casa Latina. You can view the videos here.
Technology Support for Students
If you are a student with login issues or a district-issued computing device and you need technical support, please check with MSD Technology Resources. If you can not get answers there, you can open a technology service center ticket.
If students need a computer, they can fill out a Computer Request Form.
Stay Connected!
Information and news about Mariner High School are available in a variety of formats. This year, you will receive a phone message and email from the district if we close or delay school. This helps ensure we reach everyone, including those without an email address on file, before students stand outside at a bus stop, and before parents leave for work. If you added a text message number in the Blackboard portal https://mukilteoschooldistrict.bbcportal.com/ you would also receive a text message. As usual, school delays or closures will be posted on the district website and posted through FlashAlert, which also feeds into mainstream local news feeds.
