Halloween
- Students in Kindergarten may dress up in costume. Costumes can not be violent in nature and NO accessories or scary masks should be not be sent to school for this event. Grades 1-5 will be allowed to dress up by theme. Your child's classroom teacher will be sending home information specific to that grade level. We will have a school-wide assembly where our student council will be discussing the importance of following our PAWS - positive attitude, act responsibly and work with heart. Our Kindergarten and Grade 1 students will parade around the gym before heading back to their classrooms.
Grade 3 spreads their wings!
Dear Middlebrook Families,
Today, our students celebrated Be Who You Are Day based upon author Todd Parr’s book of the same name. This day was created to promote the importance of being yourself and taking pride in being unique. As part of the celebration, students viewed a short video created with Mrs. Rydelek’s class, listened to a reading of the book by the author, and other classroom activities. Each student was given a paper feather to decorate as a representation of who they are. All of the students’ feathers will be collected and assembled to create “student wings” in our hallway.

With already 12% of the school year completed, we continue to stress the importance of daily attendance for our students here at Middlebrook. Unless your child is ill, school is the best place to be! "When students are not frequently absent, their grades and reading skills often improve—even among those students who are struggling in school. Students who frequently attend school feel more connected to their community and develop strong social skills and friendships, which are important life skills."
Month of September = 95.7% in attendance
**goal 97% or above
As always, if you have any questions, concerns or some good news to share with us, please feel free to contact us at school, 203-452-4411.
Fondly,
Debbie Ponte, Principal
Michele Molloy, Assistant Principal

Hearing and Vision screenings will take place on October 24th, 25th, and 26th for Grades K, 1, 3, 4 and 5. If a recent hearing/vision screening was completed and handed in on a health assessment physical form, the student does not need additional screenings.
Scoliosis Screening will be done on October 25th and 26th for 5th grade girls. Girls can wear a tank top underneath.
Please submit a written note if you would not like your child screened for vision/hearing or scoliosis.
CHET Dream Big
The CHET Dream Big! Competition will launch on September 7! This competition is brought to you by the Connecticut State Treasurer’s Office as Trustee of the Connecticut Higher Education Trust (CHET). Dream Big! is open to all Connecticut residents in grades K-12.
We need your help to make sure students and their families know about this opportunity to win contributions to their CHET 529 college savings plans! This year, the Dream Big! Competition prizes have increased in value. We will be awarding more than $450,000 in CHET 529 College Savings Plan – Direct Plan (“CHET 529 Direct Plan”) account contributions to students in grades K-12 and technology prizes to schools. For the prize-winning students, we will be awarding:
3 $25,000 prizes
15 $7500.00 prizes
240 $500 prizes
To enter, students are asked to answer, in the form of a drawing, short essay or video, a question focusing on their dreams for the future (depending on their Grade Level Group, as defined in the Competition Official Rules). Submissions must be uploaded by 11:59 p.m. on October 21. For program details, rules and regulations, and to enter, visit:
www.ChetDreamBig.com And this year, entering is easier than ever!
Your school could win a prize too! Each school in Connecticut that is represented by at least one student entry will be eligible for a random drawing for a technology prize worth $7,500. A total of 20 schools will win a technology prize – and your school could be one of them! Please see the 2022 Competition Official Rules for more information on prize structure and awards.
While students can enter online, we are also sending you paper applications and promotional materials in the mail. We encourage you to share this information with your teachers, students and their families and consider making Dream Big! an activity in your classrooms as you begin your school year. Entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on October 21. There is no cost to enter. If you have any questions, please email dreambiginfo@dja.com.
Thank you for your support!
