Prune belly syndrome

What causes this?
It is caused by a urethral obstruction during fetal development
Partial or complete absence of abdominal muscles
What are the symptoms?
Abdomen with wrinkly appearance
Abdominal mass sits over the pubic bone
Urinary tract organs may be easy to feel through the area
What goes on inside the body to cause these symptoms?
What are the treatments?
There is no specific treatment for this condition, they are all based on age
What is the prevention for this issue?
You can get screening of fetal anomalies to make sure you don't have it
Interesting facts
The prune belly syndrome is associated in trisomy 18 and 21
1 in 40,000 births have prune belly
