News from this week
Dear Parents,
We had a busy week with several daily grades. Overall, the students did well and are really getting into the tempo of 4th grade. I will be putting grades into the grade book as they come in, so you should be able to start checking the portal to keep up to date with how your child is doing in class. Fourth grade is a big jump from 3rd, so please make sure to check your child's Friday Folder every week for all the things coming home. Review any papers where they seemed to have difficulty.
We will be having our math test on Place Value and Rounding on Tuesday. We worked on our study guide today in class. We will review it on Monday along with the most recent daily grade in preparation for Tuesday's assessment. Our next 2 units will be Multiplication and Division, so please be sure to have your child practice their multiplication facts. There are many online practice games for multiplication. You can find links in the Content section of my e-class page. It is essential that they know these well in order to be successful in this next unit.
Our Science test on Ecosystems will be on Thursday. A study guide will come home on Monday. You can also find what we cover in the unit along with a Quizlet vocabulary review in the Content section (under Science --> Ecosystems) of my website. Please help your child study each night to make sure they do well on the test.
Open House for 4th and 5th grade will be held this week on Thursday, August 30 from 6:30-7:30 pm. I look forward to seeing you there!
Our reading program kicks off officially next week. Reading logs were sent home in Friday Folders today and are due every Monday. Please make sure to sign your child's reading log every week or else it will not be counted. Also, if you decide to submit the reading log online, please send me an email by Monday morning. I do not get a list of online submissions until Wednesday, so I need to get the confirmation of submission from the parents.
If you have not yet signed up for Remind, please make sure to do so. I like to use this service to let parents know about important information about our class, including upcoming tests and the weekly newsletter. You can text the code: @stoffle18 to the number 81010.
Please look through your child's Friday Folder. The behavior sheet needs to be signed and returned on Monday each week.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Mrs. Stoffle

What is PBIS?
Parents,
We have an exciting school wide initiative for the 2018-2019 school year! Gwin Oaks Elementary School is a PBIS School.
What is PBIS?
PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions Support) is a framework that will give Gwin Oaks Elementary School unified school expectations. Similar to the Gwin Oaks Elementary School Handbook, these rules will define our expectations for behavior in our school. You will see these expectations posted throughout the school and your child will be learning them during his or her first days at school. Our unified school expectations, found in every classroom and non-classroom setting in the school, are as follows:
Be Ready
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
As part of our PBIS process, teachers and other staff members use the discipline data we accumulate to develop evidence-based practices to increase student learning and decrease classroom disruptions. We will have incentives to encourage students to adopt the expectations in a positive manner. We look forward to sharing more with you and your student for the 2018-2019 school year.
