"So great is the strength we possess in our unity."
St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Thank you to the many families who attended the UR STRONG Friendship Workshop last week, to our Assistant Principals Ondine and Susannah for arranging this opportunity, and to the staff who were also able to attend. It was really great to see the interaction between children and parents and as always St Columba’s is committed to your child’s social and emotional development.
The School Board invites you to have your say during this consultation phase for the School Strategic Plan 2019-2021. Similarly, the P&F survey invites you comment on events that interest you. Both links are in the newsletter.
The deadline to enrol your child for Kindergarten interviews for 2020 and 2021 is TOMORROW (Friday 29 March) – please be sure to get your Application for Enrolment forms in. Interviews will be held in the first few weeks of Term 2.
Tomorrow is the last day to receive the discount on school fees paid in full.
We have a new requirement by Government to report on the immunisation status of all students. Families need to supply the school with an up to date Immunisation History Statement for each child attending St Columba's. Please follow the directions in the newsletter on how to access this information.
Parent and Carer / Teacher interviews will be conducted over the last two weeks of Term 1. An email will be sent out to families with logon details for you to arrange an interview time. The link is also available on our school website under PTO.
Thank you to Jonelle Beveridge (Premier Studios), one of our St Columba’s mums, for the series of beautiful photos of our school! We will feature them in our newsletter and on Facebook for you all to enjoy.
God bless.

St Columba's Code of Conduct
This week we look at Statement 5, from our Code of Conduct.
‘You respect the dignity, culture, values and beliefs of each member of the school community.’
Two examples of staff complying with this statement are when they show respect for the different backgrounds and traditions of students and they respond timeously to reasonable requests.
Students adhere to this statement when they show respect for a person’s ethnicity and gender and use respectful language towards others. A student encouraging inappropriate behaviour from students with disabilities would be a breach of this statement.
Parents adhere to this statement when they use appropriate language during teacher/parent interviews and when they have regard for and are supportive of staff in relation to our school policies.
Friendly Reminder - Student Immunisation History Statements Required
All families are requested to supply the school with an updated immunisation record for each of their children. Thank you to the many families that have forwarded their Immunisation History Statement to date.
The Immunisation History Statement can be accessed in several ways.
- Print a copy of your (or your child's) Immunisation History Statement using your Medicare online account through myGov or Express Plus Medicare mobile app.
- Call the AIR on 1800 653 809 and request a copy be posted to you.
- Email air@humanservices.gov.au.
The forms can be emailed to admin@stcolumbassp.wa.edu.au, or handed in to the School Office.
Your attention to this request by the end of this term will be very much appreciated.
Full Family Detail Forms - Due Back to the Office
It is imperative that these forms are checked and returned to the school office as they are a confirmation that all details stored on the school database are correct or changes to be made. If there are no changes the form is still required to be returned to the school office with your initials confirming details are correct.
The forms were sent home with family school fee statements earlier this term.
Don't Delay - Have Your Say Now!

We are currently in the consultation phase for the development of our school strategic plan for 2019 - 2021. It is a once in 3-year opportunity to have your say on the direction and priorities for the school, child learning, and our community.
The survey can be accessed via the following link.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/F8LZ8RK .

National Young Leaders' Day 2019
On Monday, the Year 6's left at 8:45am from the South Perth Ferry Terminal, boarded a ferry and travelled to Elizabeth Quay. They arrived and headed to the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre where the Leaders’ Day was being held.
First, we went to the auditorium where we saw the hosts, Liv Phyland and DJ RAF. Akram Azimi talk about his life and leadership qualities. Then it was recess. After recess, we went back to the auditorium where the next two speakers spoke.
The second speaker, Jade Slayer, was from the Cottonon Foundation who talked to us about the work they are doing. The third speaker was Leisel Jones, a 9-time Olympic medallist and 4-time Olympian. She spoke to us about her 3 set rule for achieving goals.
Next, we had lunch and got to meet some of the speakers and hosts. Then we went back to listen to the final speaker, Matt Cosgrove, who is an author and illustrator. We had to leave at 2:10pm to get to the ferry and travel back to school.
We all arrived at school and all the Year 6s thoroughly enjoyed the day!

Artist of the Week
Celeste from Year 5 is the Artist of the Week. She was chosen because of her beautiful patterned wing art. Celeste loves to create things. She thinks of it as her passion. Her favourite type of art is free drawing. She likes to draw people and cute animals. To make her patterned wing artwork Celeste used lead pencil, white gel pens and thin and thick white markers. Celeste likes her patterned wing art because she gets to use her imagination. She also likes the bottom part because it has a rainbow of different patterns that looks like a sun.

URSTRONG Workshops
The URSTRONG workshops provided invaluable lessons as the children learnt how to stand up for themselves, identify ‘mean on purpose’ behaviour and manage friendship fires.
Children were encouraged to name the action, say how it makes them feel and then ask what they need for the problem to be resolved. They also role-played scenarios of how to give a ‘quick comeback’ and walk away, disempowering the other person.
With lots of practice and support from both teachers and parents, our students will learn the lifelong skills and strategies to manage their friendship fires.
