COVID -19 Update
Lago Vista ISD is committed to taking the necessary actions to help protect the health and safety of our community, students, and staff as we continue to monitor the evolving situation related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and its potential impact. As such, we want to keep all stakeholders informed of the District’s efforts to protect to our campuses and our community, including important new requirements related to Spring Break travel.
Decision-Making During Spring Break
As we move into Spring Break, please know that District officials will be in constant contact with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) for updates in this evolving situation. We will also continue follow the guidance of local, state, and federal health authorities, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), to determine if it is prudent to alter school operations to limit the spread of infection. If such a decision is made, notifications will be communicated through ParentLink, the District website, and through District social media accounts. For more information on the CDC's considerations for school closures, please visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/considerations-for-school-closure.pdf.
Deep Cleaning During Spring Break
During Spring Break, our custodial services provider, Aramark, will be deep cleaning all campuses, District facilities, and school buses. A broad spectrum, hospital-grade disinfectant will be used to disinfect all high touch and traffic areas, which includes desks, water fountains, doors, cafeteria tables, restrooms, and nurses’ areas, as well as school bus seats and handrails.
Additional Mitigating Measures
In an effort to do all we can to keep our students, staff, and community safe, Lago Vista ISD is putting additional mitigating measures into place, which include:
- Reinforcing effective hand washing techniques with students and staff;
The deployment of additional custodial staff members to ensure campuses are thoroughly disinfected each day; - Ongoing, supplemental disinfecting measures throughout the day for all facilities and buses; and
- Active monitoring by nursing staff of students/staff with any signs of respiratory illnesses.
In addition to District measures to help keep everyone healthy, we would like to remind all parents and staff members that the most effective measures to prevent the spread of illnesses are reinforcing good hand washing techniques and ensuring that anyone who is ill stays at home.
Level 3 Travel Notices & Spring Break Travel
For any of our Lago Vista ISD families who may be traveling over Spring Break, we urge you to please stay informed of travel health notices, and updates to these notices, by visiting the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website at https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices. Currently, the CDC recommends avoiding all non-essential travel to China, Iran, South Korea, and Europe and has placed restrictions on reentry to the United States for individuals traveling from these countries. Parents of students who travel to any country with a Level 3 Travel Health Notice over Spring Break must contact campus administration and plan to self-quarantine for 14 days after returning to the U.S., per the CDC’s guidelines. The self-quarantine days will be counted as excused absences.
Level 3 Travel Notices & New Student Enrollment
On March 6, 2020, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) shared guidance on enrolling students after Spring Break. According to the TEA, students seeking to enroll following Spring Break must be allowed to do so UNLESS they have traveled to a Level 3 Travel Health Notice country (in which case the District must follow guidance from the CDC before students are allowed to enroll).
We understand that this is a source of concern to our school community and we will remain vigilant in monitoring and responding to this ever-evolving situation, providing additional updates as necessary.
If you would like updated information from the CDC on the Coronavirus, please visit https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html. The most recent information about the Coronavirus in Texas may be found at https://dshs.texas.gov/coronavirus/.
