Improved Learning Conditions in Proviso
IL Speaker of the House Advocates for Improved Learning Conditions in Proviso
Proviso Community –
Our very own graduate of Proviso West High School, Speaker of the House – Emanuel “CHRIS” Welch, has delivered on his promise, yet again – not only to the people of Illinois but to his very own community – Proviso!
A year ago, Speaker “CHRIS” Welch invited our Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools to visit his office in Springfield. He asked what he could do to support and give back to the community he calls HOME. We shared our needs for our scholars and he has delivered on his promise. In the state’s newly signed 46.5 billion dollar budget, Speaker “CHRIS” Welch was able to assist his home district with a $10 million appropriation for the Proviso Township High School District #209 for HVAC updates.
Community, let’s give thanks to our very own – Speaker of the House, Emanuel “CHRIS” Welch!
On behalf of the Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools and community.
We say THANK YOU, Speaker Welch!

Oak Brook Pink 5k
This past Saturday, Mr. Stubstad helped put together a group for the Oak Brook Pink 5k. The group consisted of teachers, students, families, former teachers, and former students. With around 80 participants, Team Proviso was the biggest group in the Oak Brook Pink 5k and raised $2,000 for breast cancer awareness. It was such a joy having so many people and families in the Proviso area come together for such a great cause. In addition, Team Proviso earned medals in a variety of divisions. The following participants finished in the top 3 of their division; Jocelyn Guandique, Robert Donald, Max Voegtle (1st), Nathan Love, Diego Mendieta, Jeffrey Madlock, and Mr. Stubstad. Senior Gabby Sosa said, “Being around family and friends helped motivate me throughout the 5k!” Diana Pantoja agreed and added, “The volunteers were very encouraging, and the event was a ton of fun! Even my cat (who she pushed in a stroller for the 5k) had an awesome time!” The weather was terrific, and we all had a great time!
We look forward to doing this again next year and hope you will join us!
AP Digital Design & AP Studio Art
PMSA proudly offers two separate AP art classes: AP Studio Art & AP Studio Art Digital Design. Students used their previous knowledge and new skills to assemble portfolios containing 15 to 20 pieces of art united by their statements. These portfolios were sent to the College Board and assessed based on a synthesis of ideas and design concepts; students who score a three or higher will be awarded free college credit at most universities!
AP Studio Art is a class that we have proudly offered for several years at PMSA. Students who participate in this class must have two prerequisite art classes, and their portfolio consists of drawings and paintings.
AP Studio Art Digital Design is a new offering for PMSA. It started last year during remote learning, and this year has grown into two sections! Students create portfolio pieces that focus on digital photography and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
This year we sent a record number of 41 AP art portfolios to the College Board!
AP Calculus Mock Exam
On Saturday, May 7, PMSA math teacher Mr. Bokar hosted a voluntary, full-length mock Advanced Placement Calculus exam for his students. We wished all our scholars good luck on their exams this spring!
