Makerspace TinkerStation
Seminole High School Library
Why do Makerspaces belong in the Library? The better question is: Why NOT the library!!!
2. Libraries are all about "Information Science" -- In a makerspace, the information science is HANDS ON--however (almost ironically) the intangible benefits are innumerable: Experience, Synergy, Synthesis, Endurance, Perseverance, Success...just to name a few.
3. 21st Century skills: STEM or STEAM or STREAM...whatever you want to label it.
4. Student need: scissors, glue, stickers, small items for Senior Scrapbooks & class projects
5. Student success: Coding, Circuitry, etc.
6. Students learning styles. Students still learn through play. Relaxed atmosphere, fun, no goals, just free-play
7. Students get to try things of which they have only heard: 3D printing, Spirograph, "relics"
Not my play-doh
Weddings...
School....
Kin to "Not my circus, not my monkeys" but better...
Coach always says: This school was not built for us. The things in the school were not bought for you. Time is not planned necessarily for your convenience. All of it, every bit of it, should be for the kids. We are so blessed to get to come every day and be a part of it with them, but it isn't ours and it isn't for us.
We have a waiting list for the 3-D printer....
Whole classes and big groups learn coding in the makerspace
