Last year Buckhorn High School students collected over 12,000 canned and nonperishable food items for the Bobbie Odom Food Pantry, New Market United Methodist Church. Our student’s generosity and your valuable help will again provide local families the food they need during the holiday season. This year, we will again try to collect more canned and nonperishable food items for the Food Pantry. We need your help. Please support this worthy cause. All food items collected are donated to local families in need.
The JROTC cadets will visit classrooms every other day, during planning blocks, to collect and count donated food items. They will collect donations until Thursday, December 14th. All items collected will be donated to the Bobbie Odom Food Pantry.
The class that collects the most food items will get a free breakfast (courtesy of Dr. Chumbley’s Culinary Class) for 1st block or Domino's/Papa John’s Pizza and soft drinks for a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th block class. Teachers, please separate your donations by block/class so we can track the numbers accurately. Thank you! ~LTC Stewart and SGT Lewis

INVESTIGATING NEWTON'S THREE LAWS OF MOTION
Mrs. Brickhouse's and Ms. Mays' Physical Science classes participated in a lab this week to investigate Newton's three laws of motion. Pictures submitted by Mrs. Hilary Brickhouse.
Newton's first law states that every object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force. The second law explains how the velocity of an object changes when it is subjected to an external force. The third law states that for every action (force) in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction. (Source: https://www.grc.nasa.gov/www/k-12/airplane/newton.html)

PROJECT LEAD THE WAY - P.A.D. LAB
Students in Mrs. Hilary Brickhouse's Project Lead the Way classes calculated ankle-brachial indexes (ABI) to diagnose peripheral artery disease (P.A.D.).
A simple test called an ankle-brachial index (ABI) often is used to diagnose P.A.D. The ABI compares blood pressure in your ankle to blood pressure in your arm. This test shows how well blood is flowing in your limbs. ABI can show whether P.A.D. is affecting your limbs, but it won't show which blood vessels are narrowed or blocked. A normal ABI result is 1.0 or greater (with a range of 0.90 to 1.30). The test takes about 10 to 15 minutes to measure both arms and both ankles. This test may be done yearly to see whether P.A.D. is getting worse. (Source: https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/pad/diagnosis)

Sign Up to Round Up!
The Round Up Program was started by The Schools Foundation and Huntsville Utilities to support local public school systems. The Schools Foundation is a funding partner of Madison County Schools. The more residential and commercial locations that round up, the more funding we can receive. Estimates show that if just half of the residential Huntsville Utilities users rounded up, it would generate approximately $500,000 to support our schools! By rounding up your utility bill to the nearest dollar each month, you help invest in the future of our students!
You can easily sign up to round up online:
http://www.hsvutil.org/myhsvu…/checkbill/roundup/signup.html
It might be a penny, it might be 25 cents, it might be 99 cents, but it will be no more than $11.88 a year. It takes less than 1 minute to fill out.
Thank you for supporting one of our community partners! Go Bucks!
