The EdTech Connection
Making the connection between ed and tech: 28 June 2019
What did I learn at #ISTE19?
Here are some of my top takeaways that I shared on Twitter and will be exploring more fully in the future:
- Pedagogy before technology.
- Goals before tools.
- Decide how to "show what you know" FIRST, no matter the age of your learners.
- Acknowledge the elephant in the room that PD isn't always perfect, but neither is school.
- Just because it's required & imperfect doesn't mean it will stay that way forever. Keep pushing for improvement!
- You don't have to be an expert in #allthethings.
- Put on your own mask before helping others.
- Use both sides of your brain to learn!
Were you at ISTE? Share your takeaways!
Were you #notatISTE? What's the best conference you've attended?
Tools You Can Use
ISTE is also ground-zero for edtech companies announcing all sorts of exciting developments and new releases. I'm adding a collection of some of the things I learned for myself, my classroom, and my teachers that I'm most excited about.
- Google Classroom is getting rubrics!! (FCS teachers: we're signed up for the beta and I'll update when it's available!)
- Chromebook App Hub: Contains lesson "sparks", apps, and different sections for the different types of roles (educator, admin, developer)
- Flipgrid now has AR!
- Add Todoist to the list of items you can "share" to AND connect it to your Google Home
- Sir Links-a-Lot: Chrome extension that will generate all the different types of "share" links like Copy, Template Preview, etc. (FCS teachers: I'm working on getting this added to our list!)
- RocketBook Beacons: Turn anything with four corners into a page on your RocketBook!
That's a lot of info and links in a small space! Overwhelmed? ME TOO!
What are you excited about trying? Did you see a tool shared on Twitter that I didn't share? Tell me about it!
Happy Fourth!
See you in July!
