#TheRidge News
8/29/2021
There is a lot to cover in light of new guidance/restrictions from this week's FMSD Board Meeting announcements. Your attention to the following is appreciated:
- Students will report directly to 1st block at 8:10 AM starting tomorrow.
- Item Drop-offs/Deliveries. We will no longer allow items to be dropped off in the front office. This includes food (school lunches are free- students will not go hungry), books, homework, instruments or athletic equipment.
- Visitors and Volunteers are not allowed in the building at this time. This includes parent volunteers for meals for athletics and band.
- Field Trips that are out of the district and not for competitive purposes are suspended at this time. Competitions including athletics, band and JROTC are currently allowed. Athletic competitions fall under the guidance of the SCHSL.
- Special events such as Open Houses or other large gatherings are not allowed at this time. Our Open House event 8/31 is cancelled and we will replace the event with a Virtual Open House on 9/7/21.
- Lunches: we will provide additional spaces to eat lunch and maintain social distancing guidelines.
- Masks are highly encouraged by the FMSD for students and staff but are not mandated. You as a parent have a choice in this matter.
- Vaccination Cards (not required): If your student has been vaccinated, it is helpful if they keep a screen shot of their card on their phone. This speeds up the process of approving students to remain in school if they are identified as a close contact. This is voluntary.
We encourage parents to read the FMSD Covid Guidelines so you are prepared in the event your student must quarantine or tests positive. As a reminder, the District sent information about these guidelines last week including information on the “Fish Bowl” model for continuing instruction in the event your student must quarantine
- Afternoon Pickup: Please make arrangements with your students so they know how they will go home each day. We will not deliver messages to your student during the day about their transportation. Your students are in in high school and should know how they get home each day. There is a phone in the front office for their use if they do not have a cell phone.
- Car Pickups and Drop-offs: Students should be picked up and dropped off in the Car Rider Line - NOT the Student Parking Lot. This is a safety issue.
- Student Dismissals: We have had an increase in attendance emails due to Covid tracing, so dismissal emails may not be checked until later in the day, which may cause you to miss your appointment. Moving forward, if you need to dismiss your student early for an appointment, you may send a signed note including your phone number with your student (NOT an email) to give to attendance the morning of the dismissal. Your student will receive a pass to leave at the stated time and meet you in the car rider line. If you do not send in a note, you must check your student out through the Front Office system, or if you are not able to come into the Front Office, you may call before 3:10 PM and we will verify information for dismissal. Per District Policy, we do not dismiss students after 3:10 PM.
- FLEX: Please encourage your student to use this time wisely and to seek help in Teacher Classrooms.
- Please refer to the FMSD Covid webpage for the latest information and updates.

Guidance News: PSAT for Juniors & Sophomores
Juniors - The PSAT will be given on Wednesday, October 13. Interested Juniors can register for the PSAT through September 10 by paying $18.00 on the “Pay Fees” tab of the CRHS website. This is the only step needed for registration.
Taking the PSAT as a junior is great preparation for the SAT. You will be provided a detailed report of each question you got right or wrong which can then be reviewed to best prepare for the next SAT test. PSAT test scores are also used for qualification for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
Juniors who do not register by paying for the PSAT will take the ASVAB test. The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a heavily researched and well-respected aptitude test developed by the Department of Defense. The ASVAB is the most widely used multiple aptitude test in the world and pairs individual strengths and interests to match students with potential careers.
Sophomores – The PSAT will be given on Wednesday, Oct. 13. Sophomores can take it free of charge but must register using this Google form. Sophomores can register for the PSAT through September 10. Sophomores who do not register will attend class as scheduled on Oct. 13.
Taking the PSAT as a sophomore is great preparation for the SAT. You will be provided a detailed report of each question you got right or wrong which can then be reviewed to best prepare for future SAT tests.
