Third Grade News

Combs Traditional Academy Knights

From The Desk of Mrs. Herrick...

We had a FANTASTIC first week of school! I am so impressed with the students and I am excited for what this year has in store for our class!

We spent this week getting to know our classroom procedures as well as learning about our friends in class. Students were given a Saxon math test and Monster Phonogram test today (Friday). We are going to start our rigorous academic schedule starting on Monday and I am sure that all students are ready and will do great.

Thank you for your support and all that you do for your children!

What We Are Learning...

Math - We will be working on lessons 1 -5 starting on Monday. Review of addition, missing addends, sequences/digits, place value, and ordinal numbers. The 3rd graders will be receiving their own math textbook that they are responsible for keeping nice. These books will need to be returned at the end of the school year. Please look for a math book form that will need to be signed and returned in their homework folder. Students will have 30 minutes in class to complete their independent work. Any unfinished work will need to be completed as homework.

Spalding/Spelling- Students will be reviewing phonograms and proper spalding handwriting. We will be reviewing syllables, vowels, and consonants.

Writing- Students will review sentence construction with high frequency vocabulary words. We will review declarative, interrogative, related, and exclamatory sentences this week as well.

Reading- We will be reviewing text structure and author's purpose.

Social Studies- Students will be learning about the importance of communities, jobs, and the citizens within their own community.

Science- Students will learn how to observe, question, and form a hypothesis about the properties of multiple objects.

Classroom Wish List

We are in need of some items that we will use all school year. Any donations are immensely appreciated!

Disinfectant wipes, colored copy paper (any color), white copy paper, # 2 pencils, wide rule notebook paper, crayons, and colored pencils.

A look Ahead....

Curriculum Night is fast approaching! Please be on the look out for more information about the date and times for our class.

We are looking for classroom volunteers, especially an Art Masterpiece teacher and Room parents. Please e-mail me if you would like more information. I am hoping to secure these classroom volunteers by the end of next week.

PTO is also looking for volunteers to help at our CTA events. Your child brought home a volunteer sign up form for you.
