PRINCIPAL'S NOTES
Happy October!
October is always a busy month at Bloomingdale Elementary, and this year is no different. We are about to wrap up our First 9-Week grading period, so we are reflecting on what we have learned and accomplished so far and we are setting goals for the next quarter. I'm proud of all the teaching and learning that has happened so far, and it has been a lot! Let's all keep learning and growing together in the second quarter.
We are also focusing this month on our School Culture. Our culture is what makes our school special and unique. It's all the rituals and celebrations we share, and the special events we enjoy together. Even during this time when the pandemic makes it difficult to do some of our usual events, we are still coming together to celebrate our school's unique culture. Here are some of the things we are doing:
- Awards Day - We recognize our students for their achievement and their growth in the first 9-weeks grading period. We can't have assemblies like we normally would for Awards Day, but we are still recognizing our students' accomplishments.
- Bloomingdale Bear Spirit Fridays - We are celebrating our school's unique culture by wearing our Bloomingdale Bear T-Shirts with uniform bottoms on Fridays.
- Pink-Out Day - We are going to be having our first-every Pink-Out Day to support Breast Cancer research this month. Charity and helping others is a part of our school culture, so this is an important thing to do. More info to come on this.
- Fall Festival - We will be having a Trunk-or-Treat style Fall Festival in late October. We are going to do this a little differently this year due to the pandemic, but this will still be a fun and joyful event for our Bloomingdale families.
It's special thing to be a Bloomingdale Bear, and we are proud of our special and unique school culture. Once a bear, always a bear!
Your Proud Principal,
Eric Heady

Notes From Nurse Healy
Covid-19 Update:
These first few weeks of school have been riddled with exposures and quarantines, but we are starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Covid isn’t gone by any means, but our cases here at Bloomingdale are extremely low right now. This is great news, but we all need to remember that it just takes one exposure to create another quarantine situation. Please monitor your family and students daily. If your students show ANY Covid-like signs or symptoms, please keep them home and let their teachers and Nurse Healy know. Attached is a Flowchart designed for Parents that will allow you to better decide when and if your child should stay home and seek medical care.

Bloomingdale Elementary' s Talent and Gifted Program
The website National Association for Gifted Children (nagc.org) is a great resource for teachers and parents of gifted children. Here is an activity suggested by the organization to help nurture your child’s gifts and have great family fun through strategy games! Strategy games allow your child to practice using skills like higher-order thinking questions and problem-solving while being motivated by the chance to win. In fact, NAGC just released a compilation of archived toys and games lists from the past decade. Traditional board games that have been passed down through generations include Monopoly, Risk, Scrabble, Battleship, and Connect Four.
This time is difficult for all of us as we search for a sense of normalcy in this place of uncertainty. But the activities given above can be tools to motivate your child to continue reaching their potential. Remember that it’s all about allowing your child to take the lead with their own learning, all they need is a helping hand from you.
