The Leaguer

Junior League of Peoria

Our women are the force that makes change happen.

The work we do, the leadership we provide is life changing to individual members and our community. Our voice is an opportunity to own that position.

2019-2020 Placement Process

Placement is one of the most important processes you take part in as an active member of the Junior League. This defines how our organization can help you grow as a leader, expand your skill set and achieve your goals. Ultimately, this is the reason you joined and allows you to tell us how we can support you! This year we are rolling out a new process in which you apply for a job instead of a committee, though you will still be placed on a committee. Our hope is that this new placement will give our members a defined purpose in the League.

We have provided you with a list of available jobs for the 2019-2020 league year. Please review the following spreadsheet before starting the placement form to gather ideas of what you may like to do for this upcoming league year. Jobs are grouped by the time of the year the work takes place and also by the amount of hours estimated per month to complete the work.

Community Impact: Glendale Community Garden

Community Garden is a partnership with the City of Peoria, South Side Office of Concern, Junior League of Peoria and U of I Extension Master Gardeners.

The project is an extension of the Kids in the Kitchen program and we'll be using funds raised during the Little Black Dress campaign to help support this project. The City of Peoria is helping to pay for a portion of the fence and shed and the installation of a water source. Illinois American Water is also donating its services to extend the water line.

On April 27, JLP will:

· Put raised garden beds into place

· Fill beds with soil

· Spread mulch on pathways

A fence and shed will be installed ASAP. Other planting containers will also be placed into the garden, including large cedar planters made by students at Limestone Community High School for SSOC.

Once the beds and planters are in place, we'll start planting seeds and starter plants with the children and families who live at Glendale Commons. Residents there and at the nearby Veterans Home will work to maintain the garden, such as watering and weeding, through the growing season, with support from JLP.

Future KITK sessions will use the produce grown in the garden for cooking workshops.

Organizational Development Institute (ODI) is being held in Charlotte, NC on May 31 - June 2, 2019. This is an amazing experience to meet other Junior League members, learn more about AJLI resources, and bring back unique ideas to JLP. Please submit your application to the Nominating Committee by April 22 to be considered. Learn more about ODI by visiting AJLI.
