Principal's Message
Dear Heritage Intermediate Families,
The administration and staff at Heritage recognize the important contributions our parents make toward our children’s success at school. There is no doubt about it—success at school always begins at home! Parents are the single most important variable in a child’s schooling. As I have mentioned in past newsletters, the most important ingredient of a great school is the partnership between the school and parents. My goal is to continue to build a tradition of supportive and involved parents who positively impact every phase of our school. Throughout the remainder of the school year parents have the opportunity to develop that partnership in a wide variety of ways. For example, parents can attend a monthly PTA meeting, volunteer in a classroom, support the cookie dough fundraiser, ensure students arrive to school on time each day, and read with your children on a consistent basis. Involvement at school is the best way to let your children know you think his or her school is important!
As spring approaches we are excited about the many activities that are going to be available for our Heritage Intermediate student to experience. These opportunities will include the use of the Heritage Habitat for instructional purposes, the 3rd grade musical, the Talent Show, Movie Night, Heritage Family Day at the Cardinals game, and the chance for our third, fourth, and fifth graders to shine during MAP testing. We want you to know that the students and staff of Heritage Intermediate have prepared diligently all year to be ready for the state MAP testing. We will be providing parents with detailed information related to when the testing will take place for each grade level and some helpful suggestions for insuring that your child does his or her very best on the test.
We also want to let parents know it’s time to begin the class placement process for the 2017-18 school year. We would like to work with you in pairing your child with the best teacher for his or her learning style. If you have a preference of a particular teaching style, please cite your child’s strengths and the type of teacher you feel would best enhance your child’s learning and submit this in writing by Friday, March 31. Please understand that including a specific teacher name is not helpful when we place students, but instead limits your request because we would have less information about the type of teacher your student would enjoy.
“It’s a GREAT day to be a BEAR!”

Heritage Intermediate Music Happenings
Students in 4th and 5th grades are playing recorders. I already have had many “black belt” accomplishments in 5th grade, and 4th graders are sounding better each week. Thank you for encouraging practice time – it makes learning to play recorder more successful for each student. In 3rd grade music classes, students are learning to play simple treble clef songs on the piano. We have also started preparation for the 3rd grade spring music concert, which will be held on April 26th at Holt High School. Your child will be receiving more specific information about this performance in a few weeks. Our program is entitled, “American Voices – Celebrating America from Armistice to the Moon”. We hope you will be able to join us for this performance.
It is almost time for Harmonizer Honor Choir to begin rehearsing again. Our first practice back will be Tuesday, March 14th at 7:15 am. We will be preparing for the Cardinal baseball game on Sunday, April 30th at 1:15 pm against the Reds. We will also be preparing for end-of-year activities such as the Volunteer Tea and Awards Assembly.
Heritage students are great musicians – keep up the good work!
