Welcome to A Quiet Corner
Happy School year 2018-2019! Whether you have a student you are responsible for or you just suffer the sudden explosion of traffic jam that is here to stay for a while you deserve a “welcome”. Patience certainly becomes a virtue when you get stuck behind a school bus on the only two lane road connecting you to the outside world, on your way to a meeting. But then, sooner than I want to feel irritated, I am reminded that fellow human-beings that are born from the same flesh and blood like you and I are facing much harder times all across our beautiful planet. Some don’t even have the luxury of noticing the change in the season.
Nevertheless, now that summer is almost over, kids are back to school and life is becoming more routine for many of us, before the unrealistically busy-ness of the holiday season begins, it’s a good time to pause and reflect on the year of our lives we just put behind us. The moments we will never get back.
Pause:
What was the majority of your life in 2018 spent on? Now that we are more than halfway through 2018 anything you would like to change for the rest of the year? Anything you would like to give more priority to?
Personally speaking, this year was a very special one and I believe it marked a turning point in my life. Throughout the year I have very much been living my question of the year: “ What would it be like to find contentment in this moment?” . As a type 7 on the enneagram finding contentment in the moment is a very big challenge for me. This constant yearning for something better, something different can hinder my focus and drown me in the deep abyss of “ finding-the-next-shiny-object-” syndrome. Breathing my question of the year has been an invaluable self observation and has helped me connect to the present moment and to finding joy in the task at hand more and more. I feel content with the journey!
Pause:
Considering your enneagram type, what is a challenge you live on a daily basis? ( to find out about your type go to: https://tests.enneagraminstitute.com )
This year also marked my fiftieth birthday. I feel empowered stepping into the sixth decade of my life. I feel I have much less time for waiting, expecting and not changing.
2018 also marks the year my son started high School. What a major transformation for me to witness.
During this year some dreams came true( I dove in the Georgia Aquarium Ocean Voyer and had close encounter with the Whale Sharks) and some were born , some friendships were made and some had to be gently let go of, some memories resurfaced joyfully or bitterly and some found themselves locked up in a deeply buried chest. The important thing is that; "Life goes on, what do I plan to do with the rest?"
Pause:
What do YOU plan to do with the rest?
yours

Leadership Language Series, Episode VI
A very common scenario, isn’t it? Co-workers getting together and one party immediately starting to gossip or comment on someone they know mutually. In a regular organization where Rules and Policies dictate behavior there’s little that can be done to prevent these toxic situations. Rules and Policies generally are common and institutional. They fill pages and pages of manuals but are never really tailored toward a special shared understanding or experience and they can be unrealistic to apply. Rules are frequently discussed after there is a violation and they are treated as a “private” matter with the violator. They are used as tools for authorities to “ correct “ a behavior, they can be interpreted in different ways and to emphasize the power of the authorities for setting boundaries. Rules and Policies simply don’t encourage any transformation in the individuals working together neither do they create any sense of camaraderie in an organization.

For immigrants, for gypsy souls, for those who were brought up in a small town, for conservatives, for liberal thinkers! I would say a book of all times. Beautiful story, superbly well written and mesmerizing!

Nobody Knows the Trouble I Have Seen
I have added a link to the Queen of Persian Pop. One of the most talented and loved singers in Iran who has been through a lot, like most gifted artists. I would say she is the Iranian Aretha! This video was produced in pre-revolutionary Iran, perhaps early 70s. Googoosh
I Survived the Bulkan Route
A most common phrase heard in an Iranian gathering; the repeated offering of black Persian tea, brewed to perfection to reveal a dark amber color, taken with a crushed cube sugar put in a corner of your mouth. This is an inseparable tradition from any gathering. Read more
Self Observation
During the next couple of weeks pause three times a day and write down:
1. How did I connect to people around me during the past few hours?
2. How well did I listen?
3. How much did I feel heard?
4. How wholeheartedly did I show up?
Asl Always... most important question
5. What could I do differently?

Nana Grants
In Georgia alone %40 of kids are raised in single parent homes. Education for the parents becomes really crucial in saving their generation from poverty. Most of these single parents have to drop out and are not able to take advantage of scholarships because they can't afford childcare. You can read more.
I am genuinely passionate about this cause and hope that you consider supporting single Nana Grant. You can make a difference in a generation! https://www.flipcause.com/secure/fundraiser/MzE5OTc=/15704
