CVU Celebrations
February 24, 2023
Dear CVU Community: What an awesome day! With some organization from the adults (thank you Chris and Cyndy!), our students led the learning and celebrating for the entirety of our Community4Unity and Winter Carnival. I wish our full community could experience the thoughtfulness, kindness, and wisdom exhibited by our future (and current) leaders. Have a great break, everyone! We will see you in March!
Upcoming Events
Thursday, March 9: CVU Blood Drive! Hey Redhawks! CVU will be hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive all day on March 9th, if you want to find an easy way to make a big difference please consider donating. This appointment only includes filling out a rapid pass, talking with a Red Cross worker about your eligibility and donating. It wouldn’t take too much time out of your school day and your donated blood would be sent to a hospital with the ability to help three people! This is a really great cause to support if you are able. Contact avarohrbaugh@cvsdvt.org with questions!
Friday, March 24: To make time for Advisor Conferences, we will not have a regular school day. Instead, students and families will meet with advisors to discuss our students' connection, direction, proficiency, and identity.
Student Celebrations
In great thanks to Lizzy Fox Lausier, our Poetry Out Loud competition featured amazing performances by all of our poets. Congratulations to Sarah, Addie, Morgan, Ava, Abigail, and Karmen. Mira Novak was the ultimate winner and will represent CVU in the VT competition!
An impressive game of shoe Jenga broke out in the coat room at the Winter Ball. Justine, Dominik, Sophie, Abby, Jenny, and Cailie impressed us with their skill!
From Olivia Gatti: The National Council of Teachers of English awarded Maddie Connery and CVU's Literary Magazine Birdseye View a Merit award in The Recognizing the Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines Program. Maddie single handedly created Birdseye View from its conception, to its production and distribution. Birdseye View was Maddie's Nexus project and I was lucky enough to be asked to be her advisor on this project. I am proud to know this creative and driven student and am not surprised her inaugural magazine won this recognition!
Every Little Thing Club members created origami this week and his several in the building. When we return from break, let the competition begin. Prizes to students who can find and return the origami to the Main Office.
From Geoff Glaspie: In Computer Science 2, as part of their unit on Networks and the Internet, Bennett and Julia designed, built, and operated their own computer network, using 4 Raspberry Pis and a network switch loaned from the IT team. Among other things, they learned how to remote login, transfer files, and map the network.
Mr. McLure's Latin 2 students have just finished a celebration of Latin Day with a variety of projects on the Roman world including wooden swords originally used in gladiatorial combats, Roman shields, models of Roman buildings, an erupting Mount Vesuvius, Roman cooking including Roman desserts, graffiti, women's rights and portraits of Roman gods among others. Many thanks to all!
Gymnastics State Championship
Last weekend nine CVU student athletes wrapped up the season by competing in the Vermont State Gymnastics Championship, held at Essex High School. CVU (7-1) placed 3rd out of 11 teams, facing stiff competition from Burr & Burton and Essex. Sally Wahl (junior) received the Artistry award for her choreography on Floor, Ruby Opton (junior) took 3rd place on Balance Beam, Warner Babic (sophomore) took 6th place on Uneven Bars, and Jasmine Dye (freshman) took 8th place on Floor. Congratulations to the team on a great season!
Thanks to Peter Booth and the 10th Grade Class Council for hosting Kahoot with live jazz interludes! Musicians are Connor Brien, Ethan Cook, Eric Carroll, and Rex McCoy.
If any students would like more information on how to participate in this event, please contact Amy Wardwell.
Faculty/Staff Celebrations
All of our Maintenance Staff deserve a loud shoutout for their work to make Winter Carnival and C4U work, but we'd like to give a special thanks to Taylor Craft who make the Rail Jam a reality. Thank you, Taylor!
The World Language department took twin day to a new level. Octuplets!
We are so cool, all 3^2 + 1 of us.

How do YOU like to learn?
As we near Town Meeting Day, Champlain Valley School District community members and voters have the opportunity to learn more about the proposed 2023-2024 (FY24) budget. Just as we offer opportunities for our students to learn in a variety of ways, we are providing the same to you. Please attend an in-person presentation, see videos and slides, read articles, or view charts and graphs on the Budget page of the district’s website and in our Annual Report. Find the manner that best suits your style of learning to be an informed voter. If, after that, you still have questions, reach out to the CVSD School Board cvsdschoolboard@cvsdvt.org or use the School Board or Budget Let’s Talk topics https://www.cvsdvt.org/page/268 Please join the CVSD Annual Informational Meeting on Monday, March 6, 2023, at 5:00 at CVU.
