Language Arts- Ms. Waxman
Greetings! This week in language arts we are on our final chapters of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Most of the students have enjoyed following Bruno and Shmuel , as they have taken us along with them on their journey. They have provided us with a closer look at the Holocaust as seen through each of their eyes. Next we will have an opportunity to analyze the similarities and differences between the novel and the screenplay as we view the movie version.
The students will begin to organize the facts that they have been gathering during their research of the concentration camps of WWII. After creating an outline, they will begin writing rough drafts of an expository paper to explain their findings.
In grammar our practice with verbs continues, but this week we are looking at "moods".
Our root words for "Touching and Holding": tact, tang (touch, feel), tag and tig (touch), ten, tin, tain (hold) will be quizzed on Friday this week. The StudyStack link is available for them in their Google classroom.
TweenTribune is in week 7, February 22nd through the 28th by noon. We have just 3 more weeks until the end of this quarter...students who READ, SUCCEED! Please ask your students to show you their progress with these. Many of them are seeing improvements in their scores and should be gradually increasing their lexile levels.
Math- Mrs. Holloway
This Week in Mathematics:
This week we will be working with qualitative graphs and scatter plots. Students will have homework Tuesday through Thursday night. The work will be workbook pages each night. The assignment for each block will be on the website; www.tinyurl.com/hollowaymath8 . Students will be working on an activity tomorrow and Wednesday in class and having an individual assignment on the information Thursday. Students need to be looking over their notes on types of slopes and writing equations from tables, ordered pairs, and equations. They will have a quiz Friday on this information. Again, www.thatquiz.org is a great site for equation and slope identification practice. They go to the website, click on algebra under integers click the top areas of slope, graphing, and formulas, and it will give them good practice. Looking forward to a great week.
Social Studies- Mr. Salser
This week we are focusing on WWII. We will discuss the events of the European war and combined with Japanese aggression, this will lead to U.S. involvement into war.
Science- Mr. Anderson
I have seen an increased amount of effort in getting work turned in on time. As we get closer to warmer weather and testing, students need to remain focused on keeping grades high and doing the best they can with every assignment. This week, we will be reviewing FORCES - Chapters 11 and 12. There will be a mastery assessment on Friday.
