Superintendent's Newsletter
Welcome - 2019-2020
Dear MUSD Community,
Dear MUSD Community,
The first official school day of 2019-2020 is in the books! I am sure you have lots of information to process and certainly lots to discuss about the first day with your student(s), so I'll keep this newsletter pretty short. Today I had the pleasure of visiting all our school sites and also got to spend time in many classrooms across the district, even if only for a few minutes. Nothing really compares to the energy of the first day. Across each campus students, staff, and families are full of anticipation and emotion about the journey that lies ahead. On behalf of our MUSD Board of Education I'd like to wish each of you an incredible 2019-2020 school year.
So much work happened this summer to get our schools ready for the first day. I'd like to acknowledge and thank the incredible work of our classified summer staff who did an absolutely fantastic job all summer throughout our school district. We are very grateful to all our custodial, maintenance, grounds, and district office support staff!
During the summer we also continued to make progress on the reconstruction of John Muir Elementary. Things are moving along according to schedule, including the removal of some classroom buildings and the old playground to make room for the new school building. For this year, a temporary play area has been created and the school staff and students will be anxiously watching the progress of their new campus.
In addition, we completed a renovation and remodel of the boys and girls locker room for MJHS. These changes allow for more space, better lines of sight, and improved patterns of student travel within the locker room areas. Both the MJHS and John Muir projects are part of our Measure R funding and could not happen without the support of our community. We are also continuing our work with sub-committees for the renovation and remodel of Las Juntas, John Swett, and Morello Park. Again, this is only possible thanks to the support from the community for Measure R.
School safety remains a key focus for all MUSD employees, students, and staff. During this time of year we are reviewing with staff and students our Standard Response Protocols, emergency readiness, and school safety measures. As you know, this will mark our second school year with Sandy Hook Promise programs, including our incredibly valuable Say Something Anonymous Reporting System.
Huge shout-out to Sgt. Fred Ferrer for making it by all our sites today to welcome back staff and students. We are very grateful for his support and to have Martinez PD as a partner in the safety of our students! Check out some of the great pictures below. Apologies in advance, I couldn't get pictures from all sites in MUSD today, but we do love them all equally. To see more pictures from each school check out the next paragraph about following along with Twitter.
There are so many exciting things happening across our district on a daily basis. We really want to be sure you are able to see and hear about these great events. For example, you may have seen on our social media today that States Coffee is donating 100% of their proceeds from today directly to MUSD! What an incredibly generous and thoughtful act by a locally owned business. Just another special example of what makes Martinez the best. A great place to see the majority of the updates provided from school sites and our district office staff is via Twitter. Info for each school's twitter account is listed below:
