A Message from Mr. Murtha...
You will see some images below of the Holiday Spirit that has been present, these past few weeks, at Kutz Elementary School. We are proud that our students and staff, even during these challenging times, come to school each day with a positive attitude, which includes sharing in the Holiday spirit of the Season. It is a season the involves diverse religious and cultural celebrations. These celebrations remind us of love and kindness, and all of them enrich our community and world. So, regardless of the Seasonal holiday in which you choose to participate, or if you simply celebrate the Season itself, we wish you a Winter Break and Season full of light, love, peace, and beauty.
Happy Holidays!

Winter Holiday Celebrations at Kutz - Important Information
Due to the unique circumstances we are facing this year and the importance of promoting health & safety within our building, our Winter Holiday classroom celebrations will look a little different. Below is some important information about our Winter Holiday classroom celebrations, which will occur on Wednesday, December 23.
- This will also be a Holiday Comfy PJs/Clothes Spirit Day (non-Holiday comfy clothes are okay, too!). Students can wear their most festive comfy colors to celebrate the wonderful Holidays of December!
- Winter Holiday classroom events will be celebrated in classrooms in an altered fashion this year. Each grade level will dedicate an hour of the school day to Winter Holiday-themed classroom events (e.g. games; activities).
- Ms. Herrschaft and the elementary strings will present a virtual Holiday concert.
- Teachers will also have discretion to incorporate Winter Holiday-themed instructional activities during other parts of the school day.
The above activities will allow us to uphold health & safety guidelines while still celebrating the Winter Holidays with all of our students - traditional and virtual. In order to further uphold those guidelines, outside food (other than normal snack/lunch) will not be permitted to be consumed in classrooms and we will not be permitting non-essential visitors into the building.
Thank you for your continued understanding and support!

Updated Travel Request Form and Policy
Here is the new family travel request form to act as a reminder to families when returning from a state or country on the commonwealth’s travel advisory list: https://www.cbsd.org/cms/lib/PA01916442/Centricity/Domain/386/CB328_familytravel_writable_PDF_Oct%202020.pdf
PLEASE NOTE: Per the guidelines listed in the district’s health and safety plan, students returning from states/countries listed on the commonwealth’s "COVID-19 Information for Travelers" web page may not attend school in-person or participate in school-sponsored activities in person for 10 days from the date on which they return from travel. (Students will participate in classes online during this time period). Upon day 5 of quarantine, a student may obtain a COVID-19 test and, if it is negative, they are permitted to return after 7 days of quarantine (return to school on day 8). School administrators reserve the right to enforce this procedure in the event that students return in-person in violation of this directive.
Attendance Expectations
Children are expected to attend all elements of the school day in whatever mode you selected, unless they have an excused absence (i.e. illness, appointment). It is important to understand that attendance is mandatory for all students per the compulsory attendance laws of Pennsylvania. Attendance will be taken each school day. Students that are not in class or not logged on at the start of class will be marked absent or tardy if they arrive late to their physical or virtual class.
If your child will not be able to attend school, in person or virtually, or needs to miss part of the day for an appointment, parents need to email kpirrone@cbsd.org. Email is strongly preferred but if you are unable to email the school, please call the school attendance line at 267-893-3900.
Online and hybrid students need to be present and actively participating in their learning. Having the camera on and being visible to the teacher allows the teacher to note their attendance as present. Students who turn off their camera for extended periods of time and are not engaging in the lesson, or leave the class early will be marked absent.

News from the Nurse
Should My Child Go To School Today?
FLU SEASON
I want to remind everyone that flu season is just around the corner. I am asking that families consider getting a flu vaccine. We want to keep everyone as healthy as possible this year. Some of the symptoms for flu and COVID are the same and we do not want anyone to have to take extra steps in order to return to in person instruction. Children are typically out of school for a week with the flu. Please ask your doctor if you have concerns about getting the vaccine. Putting a reminder on your phone or calendar is a good way to remember to prioritize your health.
SEASONAL ALLERGIES
We are hearing from some parents that their children have seasonal allergy symptoms. In an effort to keep from having symptoms on the COVID Daily Checklist, please consider keeping their allergies under control by giving daily allergy medication. If you have concerns about this please consult your child's pediatrician about other options.
Please refer to the COVID - 19 Allergies vs. Flu Spreadsheet below.
Stay well,
