A Message From the Principal...
What an exciting time it is for Columbus Junior High School! Preparations are underway for a great school year. Next week, teachers will return to campus and will begin building their online classes through Canvas, the Learning Management System adopted by CISD. Our hope is that Canvas will make accessing classes and assignments online easier for everyone.
On August 31, all CISD students will return to school online. Students are encouraged to attend class synchronously. This means that they will need to login to Canvas, follow their class schedule, and join the live instruction provided by each teacher throughout each school day. A Google Meet link will be provided on each teacher's homepage in Canvas that will allow students to join. If a student is unable to join live instruction during the regularly scheduled class time, they will still need to complete assignments daily to show engagement. This process will ensure that students are exposed to challenging and rigorous content that not only reviews skills from the previous year, but also accelerates instruction for this year.
In addition to preparing for instruction, campus and district personnel are continuing to work daily to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for everyone.

Device and Schedule Pickup
August 18th and 19th will be designated for those students who selected REMOTE instruction.
August 20th and 21st will be designated for those students who selected FACE-TO-FACE instruction.
Parents/guardians and their student(s) will enter through the front doors of the breezeway by the old gym and move from station to station. In order for students to get their chromebook, they must have a signed Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). You may print a blank AUP from www.columbusisd.org. It must be signed by both student and parent/guardian. Additional copies will be available at pickup. Any student who checked out a chromebook in the spring and did not return it, will not be issued another device. Students will also get a "beginning of the year packet" that will include class schedules and forms that must be returned by September 14th. Please return all forms in the same envelope. There will also be a station where we will check to be sure that each and every student and parent knows how to login and access their courses on Canvas.
*Face coverings and temperature checks will be required before entering the building.

Remind: Please sign up Remind as soon as possible. Both 7th and 8th grade girls will use the same code. I encourage both the athlete and the parent to sign up for Remind. This is the way I will communicate with parents concerning specific sports and athletics in general.

Athletic Paperwork: The following is a list of paperwork required by all athletes.
- PPE (Physical/Medical History) Form. UIL this school year is only requiring those students who have never completed a physical before to get one. 8th grade students in athletics last year do NOT need a physical. NO athlete will be allowed to practice without a physical.
- Concussion Acknowledgement Form
- SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest) Form
- Steriod Agreement
- Acknowledgement of Rules - You can find these forms on our district website. Go to www.columbusisd.org, Athletics, Sports Medicine, Athletics Paperwork. Scroll down to the bottom and you will see the forms. You can also access the forms at columbusisd.rankonesport.com. Competed forms can be dropped off in the front office. Or, you child may bring them to volleyball practice/first day of in-person instruction.
Practice Times: Volleyball practice will begin on Monday, August 31. For the first 2 weeks of practice while we are on remote learning (August 31 - September 11), 7th grade will practice from 2:45 - 4:00 pm. 8th grade will practice from 4:15 - 5:30 pm. Starting September 14, 8th grade will practice in the morning from 7:35 through 1st period and 7th grade will practice in the afternoon beginning in the athletic period and ending at 4:30 pm. Please keep in mind that practice times could change, so please be flexible.

Practice Times: 7th and 8th grade will practice after school until 4:30. Since we are doing virtual learning, your child can still come up to practice once school time ends.

There are 4 different times on the schedule. Please ignore that. We will notify you on game times a week in advance. Sorry for the confusion.
Required JH Paperwork: To help us coaches have the most accurate contact information, we are requiring the parents to update their child's emergency contact information and any other information. You will see documents below that we would please like for you to fill out and return back to us. This is just to ensure us we will be able to contact whoever if anything comes about.

School Supply Lists
Students that are attending on-campus will be required to purchase the required school supplies. Students that are participating in online/virtual learning will need school supplies; however, it will be left up to the parent as to which supplies to purchase.
Please note:
1. Should we return to school on campus during the 2020-21 school year, students that started in a virtual setting will be required to bring supplies.
2. School supply lists can be found online at www.columbusisd.org under the tab “Parents/Students” at the top of the page.
