Hello, from a safe, virtual distance. The counselors miss working with students face-to-face everyday, but are here to help you virtually! We are answering emails during normal school hours. Below you will find helpful information for all aspects of counseling. Thanks for tuning in!

Course Requests for 2020-2021 will be emailed home next week. Students can also view their course requests in StudentVue (desktop, not phone app). Directions on how to alter your course requests will be in the email. Please pay attention to the list of closed classes! If you have questions, please contact your school counselor! As a reminder, once the school year starts, no elective classes can be changed, and we do not change classes for teachers or to a different period.

Students can check their GPA in StudentVue (desktop, not phone app) by clicking on course history. There will be a small box on the top right of the course request screen that says "Unofficial Transcript". Keep in mind GPAs are calculated at the beginning of the year, middle of the year (projected GPA) and the end of the year. Once official transcripts are completed in mid-June, updated transcripts will be uploaded in StudentVue.

Mrs. Pitre has started S2S- Student 2 Student, a club for military connected students. If you are interested in joining, please let her know at pitrend@pwcs.edu. April was the Month of the Military Child. Counselors wore purple on April 22nd to celebrate our military kids!

Welcome to May! Mental Health is more important than ever right now. Take some time to do what makes you feel good. Out of ideas? Stuck inside? Try listing some things you are grateful for, finding a YouTube video that gets you moving (Miss Beatty has been into dance videos right now, but maybe you're more of a Mrs. Genova and like yoga), cook a favorite meal, or send a message to someone you care about.

As counselors we believe in the importance of mental health, and know there is a stigma around getting help. Check out this video from Mrs. Smith who talks about how to confront that stigma.

Use this time to tour prospective colleges and universities from your couch! Check out eCampusTours, YouVisit, and CampusTours to explore more. Mrs. Main has been working hard to keep the Career & College Counseling page on our website updated! Check it out!

There are a ton of career interest tools located in Naviance as well as ways to request transcripts, see your GPA, and more!

To log into Naviance, please do the following:
1-Go to Hylton's homepage, in the upper right corner hover your mouse over "students" and a drop-down will appear

2-Click on "Naviance Student" from that drop-down (should be first column)

3-The Hylton Naviance log-in page will appear. Click "Log in with Clever"

4-Search for your school will appear, type "Hylton High School"

5-It will say Prince William County Schools at the top of the page, click "Log-in with Office 365"

6-Use the log-in that you would normally use on the school's library computers. If you do not know that, you must contact Mr. Shawn Jones. We cannot assist with the school log-in credentials.

7-After you log-in, you will see your Naviance home page

Juniors looking to get a head start for next year, you can create a Common App account if you plan to apply to 2+ colleges that are supported by Common App. Once you've done that follow these instructions to match your accounts.

1. Log into your Common Application Account
2. Once you are in your Common App account, click the “Common App” tab
3. Make sure you have chosen C.D. Hylton as your school. You can do this in the Education section on the left.
4. Under the “College Search” section of your CA, make sure you have at least one college listed, that you are applying to, that uses the Common App
5. Under the “My Colleges” tab, click on “Recommenders and FERPA” on the left margin
6. Go through the questions on the FERPA Release Authorization section, checking the necessary boxes
7. You are done with the Common App. portion of matching!
8. Now, sign into your Naviance Student account….Remember to use Clever
9. Click on “Colleges” (top right), then click “Colleges I’m Applying To”
10. In the red box, enter your Common App e-mail address and your date of birth
11. Click “Match”…..make sure your Common App name and Naviance name are exactly the same
