What are we learning?

Unit: Mayflower - we have started our 2nd PBL project! How will we as Pilgrim Families decide what to take on our Mayflower voyage?

ELA focus: Main Idea, Metacognition- thinking about our thinking when we are reading, and Author's Purpose! Why did the author write this story? To persuade us to do/think something? To entertain us or make us laugh? Or inform us and give us facts?

Math: Money- counting a collection of coins. Make sure to practice identifying coins at home and their value. Students should know to count nickels by 5s, dimes by 10s, and pennies by 1s. Practice this at home!

Also, please practice COUNTING TO 120!!! Many students get stuck after 100...

Science: Weather- and measuring weather!- creating our own thermometers!

Social Studies: Needs and Wants- PBL project

I just wanted to say THANK YOU so very much for your donations to our classroom library!! Together, we raised 84$ for our class!! The kids were determined to buy new books for our classroom- and they are so excited with our purchases!

Please send report cards back if you haven't already!

Please sign and return the report cards to school- WITH THE ENVELOPE! I only get 1 envelope per student and I won't have any extras :( Please be kind and return both to school as soon as you can!!

Spelling List

*Your child is coming home with their spelling test from the week. Ask them how they did and brainstorm ways they can improve. I know practice doesn't make perfect- but it definitely makes progress! Please consider practicing the weekly words at home- as well as the words your child missed on their test! :)

This week's Spelling List:-- all of these are review words!!

Lockdown Drill This Wednesday!

This Wednesday we will be having a lock-down drill. Before the drill, we will be talking briefly about what a lock-down drill is and why we have them. We will not be using words like, bad-guys, guns or shooting. I want to encourage you to talk to your child about the drill, making sure they aren't anxious and that they feel safe coming to school.

How will we as Pilgrim Families decide what to take on our Mayflower Voyage? Ask your child which family they are in and how they are deciding on items!
