Students will take their pictures before recess in the morning.
Portrait Day Details
There is no need to prepay or submit any forms. Picture day is all about the portrait! Cornerstone photographers understand lighting, posing and most importantly, expressions! They will help your child create the best smile possible.
Preview Before Purchasing
Approximately 2-3 weeks after Picture Day, you will receive an email link to view and order your portrait online with a secure personal access code. You will be able to select from a wide variety of backgrounds, packages, instant downloads and portrait gifts. All orders are placed online and will be shipped directly home.
What to Wear
Solid colors, collars and detailed necklines photograph nicely. Avoid large logos and busy patterns. If your school requires you to wear a uniform, pick your nicest one.

Up and Coming
Our next association meeting will be on Tuesday, November 16th at 6:30 pm. For now, all meetings will be held on Zoom. Please mark your calendars!
We also have several events coming up at the end of October and beginning of November listed below. Please be on the lookout for more information.
Spirit wear can be ordered anytime and is delivered to your child on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month. We love seeing our kiddos show their Hawk Pride!
Please check out their website for important parent information as well as directions on how to join!
Great Shake Out!
Our next drill will be October 21st: The California Great ShakeOut!
This is an earthquake drill, followed by an evacuation of classrooms.
Remember this is a great time to also talk to your child about what to do in an emergency at home, and to check your home disaster kits.
Counselor's Corner
Hello Hawk Families!
This week I shared a message with students reminding everyone to use their positive self-talk!
If you haven’t heard of self-talk before, it is exactly how it sounds: it’s how we talk to ourselves verbally and/or mentally. Humans, big and small, are capable of giving themselves positive or negative messages with how we talk and think about ourselves and our situations.
I’d like to encourage everyone to talk to themselves (and others) in a positive manner.
Practicing positive self-talk can enhance your general well-being, academic and physical performance, and often gives the speaker/thinker a more optimistic outlook which can have other health benefits, including:
• greater life satisfaction
• improved immune function
• better physical well-being
• less stress and distress
• ability to solve problems
• think outside the box
• increase efficiency in coping with challenges
Please visit https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/mayo-mindfulness-overcoming-negative-self-talk/ for more detailed examples of how you can model positive self-talk (and avoid negative-self talk).
One of the best ways to teach your kids is to model your positive self-talk audibly so your child can hear positive messages - even if/when things aren’t going smoothly.

Child and Youth Behavioral Military and Family Life Counseling Services
Due to the unique challenges military members face and the impact they have on families, the Office of Military Community and Family Policy provides Child and Youth Behavioral Military Family Life Counselors (CYB-MFLCs). CYB-MFLCs have advanced degrees (masters or doctoral-level) in the mental health field and specialized training in child and youth development.
They support the needs of children and families by partnering with parents, faculty, counselors and staff to foster healthy growth and social skill development
Please see THE CONSENT FORM for more information. It can be returned to the office or to Mrs. Martyniuk, our school counselor, and we will pass it along to your child can receive services.
You can also reach out directly to the counselor by calling (805) 603-6835

Please remember to continue practicing patience and kindness with our Hawk Family! We are all in this together. We especially appreciate big THANK YOUS to the staff on duty in the morning and afternoon, it makes their day!
Also a friendly reminder that animals are not permitted on campus, as it poses a safety risk and could be a liability for you and/or the school.
