Midyear Data Check-In

It's the time of year, to me, where the winter data points either create Huge celebrations or concern. Remember when we set a goal for a student the goal is considered met when the student meets or exceeds the target three consecutive times. Ponder these questions as you study your winter data points:

1. How does your data look for your Title 1 students?

2. Have students made ample growth?

3. If not, what instructional strategies do I need to consider changing?

4. If goals are met, are we setting a new stretch goal for individual students?

5. If you have reason to celebrate, share those celebrations with ALL of us via email. Tell us what's worked with your particular group of students. Your story may give others ideas!!

Please let me know if you have questions about individual or groups of students. I am happy to meet with you!

Scholastic Guided Reading Program Short Reads Are COMING!!

I am excited to tell you that a new resource, Scholastic Short Reads, will hit your school this spring! You may remember seeing this resource at our last meeting. Each school will receive Levels A-Z which include 10 lessons at each level. Scholastic Short Reads are short contemporary non fiction texts which are rich in vocabulary and taken from many different sources such as emails, how-to diagrams, magazine articles, etc. Lessons include 6 copies of student cards and offer opportunities for critical reading and a deepening of comprehension. This resource is intended to expand our Book Rooms adding additional resources for strategy groups or small guided reading groups.

The hope is to present these materials to librarians and all staff in March. However, After speaking with a librarian, the process time of the resources may require not making this resource available until next spring. : ( Please let me know if you have any questions!
