Jontracation
Internet Find of the Week -September 8, 2014
Welcome Back!
So, we're starting our 4th week of school. Do you feel like you are in the swing of things yet? For the first Jontracation of the year, I thought I'd start with something encouraging. Kid President is always encouraging!
Is Your Inbox Full?
Right now, my inbox has 612 emails. Not all of those are unread. In fact, most of them have been read at least once. That number causes me stress. I keep hearing about the "Zero Inbox." I dream of a zero inboxt, but clearly I'm nowhere near it.
Below is a video that shows one plan to help you get to a zero inbox.
While we're talking about email, can we consider one area of email etiquette? When you are sending an email to a long list of recipients, it is considered rude to fill up your To: field with everyone's email address. The better way to handle this is to send the email to yourself, then in the BCC: field paste all the other addresses. This way, each recipient only sees their email address and they don't have to scroll through 30 email addresses to get to your message!
New Feature in Google Email
Well, those dotted lines are simply magical! When you hold your mouse over the you will see a black Add to Calendar bubble appear. When you click on the date, you can add the event to your calendar. How cool is that? You didn't have to leave your email.
Bible Geocoding
This is a blast from the past. I shared this site, but it is so good, I think it's worth repeating. Openbible.info is the work of a gradutate of Wheaton College. Working off of a comprehensive list of Bible locations created by Crossway Bibles and using Google Earth technology, this site provides Google Earth files that allow you to see Bible locations.
The Google Earth files are organized by both book and chapter. They are very user-friendly. I think students would enjoy seeing where Bible events might have taken place.
If you want to take this to the next level, we could contact the creator of these maps and and see if he would be interested and available to talk to your class via Google Hangout. The Openbible.info site has more than just Bible geocoding. Clearly, this guy has a gift for research and how to share his research using today's technology. Talking with him would be fascinating.
Let This Be an Encouragement to You
