Ixonia Elementary School
August 28, 2020 - Falcon Flyer
First Day of School
Our tradition on the first day of school has often been gathering on the playground and taking a picture while waving goodbye to our families. However, this year we need to operate a bit differently in order to safely launch our school year! It's important that we do not create large group gathering.
We ask that for parents using the drop-off line, you say your good-byes in the car and proceed with our drop-off procedures to keep the traffic moving (please see procedures below). As students are dropped off out the RIGHT SIDE OF YOUR VEHICLE, we will help them find their homeroom line up spot and will then wait for each grade level bell before entering the building. I promise we will have lots of adults outside to greet your children and make sure they know where they should stand as they wait.
For students riding the bus, students will wait on the bus until their grade level bell rings before dismissing them into the building.
The Welcome Back sign in front of the school will remain up for the entire week if you would like to stop by outside of school hours and take a photo.
Thank you so much for your cooperation this year as we launch what is going to be a wonderful 20-21 school year!

20-21 Ixonia Teaching Teams
As we prepare for our first day of school, we would like to update you on Ixonia's teaching teams for the 2020-2021 school year. In addition to changes that naturally occur each year, you may notice some additional changes due to Ixonia staff electing to teaching in the OVLC virtual model. Traci Timm, Tracy Cavanna, and Mikalah Fallon have elected to teach in the OVLC for the 20-21 school year.
We are welcoming Kerry Robbins from Silver Lake Intermediate who is taking over Tracy Cavanna's duties as she transitions to the OVLC, Celia Schlosser from Park Lawn who is joining our third grade teaching team and Debby Needles who is joining us as our new Reading Interventionist.
We are excited about our team and look forward to a wonderful school year!

Substitute Teachers & Paras Needed
Every year we are in need of substitutes to fill in when teachers are out of the classroom. With the upcoming school year being one that will potentially challenge us to fill our classrooms, I ask for you to consider substitute teaching! It really can be a part of the solution to help our schools stay open. We are in need:
- Classroom teacher subs (which require a 2- or 4-year degree) – $125/day
- Paraprofessional subs (which require a high school diploma) – $13/hour
Subbing is a great part-time job as it offers daily flexibility and allows you to choose your preferred location and frequency of work! Even subbing one day per week would be a huge help.
Attached below is information regarding subbing in the Oconomowoc School District. Substitute teacher training & a DPI license is required to help you feel prepared for this position. (Training is NOT required for paraprofessional subs.) There are a variety of training options available in our area, but here is some information on an online program for $100. https://www.cesa6.org/services/substitute-teachers/ The district will reimburse all candidates for the costs of their DPI license.
To help us get a sense of those who may be interested, please fill out this interest form: https://forms.gle/jsei8a23VoFAUPN28.
Questions can be directed to our HR department, which can be found on the flyer. FEEL FREE TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH FAMILY OR FRIENDS WHO MAY ALSO BE INTERESTED!

Birthday Celebrations
We will still be celebrating all students on their birthdays and half birthdays with an announcement in the morning, sticker and pencils as well as individual classroom acknowledgements.
In order to keep our environment as safe as possible, we will not be having any birthday food treats or other items distributed that are brought from home.

Calm, Cool, Capable Workshop - FREE for 4th-7th Graders
Gals on the Go Project and Gals Institute is excited to provide a FREE workshop sponsored by the OAF for 4th-7th graders, to Oconomowoc families. This fun, interactive virtual "workshop in a box" helps 9-12 year olds of age learn tips and tools to build resiliency and self-esteem. The timing is flexible to a families' schedules as it's self-guided. Our registration is rolling on an ongoing basis. Once we fill a "class" of 15, we will start a new group. We have already had registrations, but can take many more. This would be beneficial to offer to your students on how to remain calm in times of anxiety, build healthy relationships, and increase self confidence, especially during this challenging time for all of us. This would be great for weekends, evenings, or as part of students' CPR time.
For more information please see the video below.

Volunteer & Chaperone Background Checks
Would you like to volunteer or chaperone a field trip at the school? All school volunteers must pass a background check prior to volunteering.
The Oconomowoc Area School District is now using SecureVolunteer to process criminal background checks for volunteers. All volunteers must be screened prior to volunteering for a school event or in a building.
SecureVolunteer is a completely web-based/paperless system. BIB takes personal data security and privacy very seriously and has instituted safeguards to protect personal data.
Background checks are good for 3 years.
Thank you for volunteering in the Oconomowoc Area School District. We appreciate YOU!
